tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Still see Dre'Mont Jones 6'3" 280 redshirt Freshman next season moving inside as Adolphus Washington.
He is a big bone thick muscle kid that keeps adding weight each year and will get to 290 lbs easy.

Don't think there is any doubt Jones will be moved inside, they've got Hubbard & Lewis on the edge with Holmes rotating in....the best of the rest will be inside and other than Hill I don't think anyone else has really set themselves apart. He'll have his chance, no doubt about that.

Not sure what the dead periods are but I am sure Urban can use this extra week for recruiting somehow instead of preparing for the CCG. Seems like a good spot to be sitting in with a good class already and room to add more while evaluating who stays and who departs from the program. With the variety of coaching vacancies adding to the mix it's an interesting time.

For 2016
We need big monsters in the middle of the DL, not just one two or three. I don't want to ever hear "we were dominated in the trenches". We can not miss out on this one. Hair on fire!
Two top DB's. Hair on fire!
We need another stud on OL.
Victor
The rest is gravy.

I think the staff is toying with this idea for several players including Jones, Cornell being another, and possibly Thompson. And I think Malik Barrow will be used in the same manner. Athletic DTs that can get in the backfield and disrupt offenses

How many spots left and what positions need filled the most? Seems like DT and Secondary are most pressing but of course we want Victor/Corley at WR.

The pursuit of Hayes is interesting to me. Seems like he might outgrow the LB position? How does the staff see him position wise? Is it a case of 'take the best athlete's you can' and figure it out later?

With the secondary players in the class: Felder is a CB and Davis is more of a safety? Just curious what type of secondary players they pursure to fill the class.

If we have 7 spots left I would hope to see

1) DT (Jackson presumably)
2) CB/S
3) CB/S
4) WR (Victor presumably or Corley)
5) OL (would love a surprise here)
6) LB
7) Best player available of: DT, CB/S or playmaker like Sam Bruce

Just an interesting article on recruiting in Georgia:

Mark Richt fired at Georgia: What could that mean for Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes? Ohio State football recruiting

Georgia is in SEC country, so you'd think it would pose enough challenges to dissuade Urban Meyer from making it one of Ohio State's primary recruiting territories. It hasn't.

Meyer loves recruiting Georgia, and it's evident if you look at Ohio State's 2016 offers breakdown. According to 247Sports, the states outside of Ohio to which Urban Meyer has thrown out the most offers are Florida (38), Texas (19) and Georgia (16).

Georgia is a manageable drive to Ohio and it has one of the deepest pools of high school talent in the country, so it makes sense that Meyer has emphasized it. And two of Meyer's most impactful recruiting gets of his Ohio State tenure are from Georgia -- former five-star prospects Raekwon McMillan and Vonn Bell -- and everyone can see what they're doing for the Buckeyes defense.

But you want to know why else it makes sense for Meyer to attack Georgia? Because Georgia head coach Mark Richt didn't put a border around Georgia the way Meyer did in Ohio.

Now Richt has been fired, so things may be changing in a state Ohio State has claimed as a second source for its talent.

Here are some thoughts:

COACHES' SHUFFLE: THE POTENTIAL IMPACT ON OHIO STATE RECRUITING

64455_h.jpg,qitok=5Ffoc6V1.pagespeed.ce.tHXFdsCtSR.jpg

The coaching carousel is in full swing and Ohio State is once again looking to take advantage.

Since his arrival in 2011, Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes have reaped the benefits of a number of national coaching shake-ups. Joe Paterno's departure—coupled with the Meyer hiring—allowed Ohio State to sway five-star Noah Spence away from Happy Valley. Defensive back Armani Reeves, linebacker Camren Williams, and defensive tackle Tommy Schutt also backed off their Penn State pledges and ultimately signed with the Buckeyes.

In January of 2013, Chip Kelly accepted the head coaching job with the Philadelphia Eagles. Shortly thereafter, Dontre Wilson—one of the nation's top running backs—announced that he was flipping his commitment from Oregon to Ohio State.

Over the last 72 hours, there have been several noteworthy coaching moves at some of the country's elite programs. A lot of the action (and action that has yet to come) has focused on the Southeastern Conference—specifically Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina—and anyone who follows recruiting knows how important the region is to Meyer and Co.

Ohio State has been battling Auburn for Antwuan Jackson's services. Yes, the four-star defensive tackle was at the Swamp last weekend and got to see the Gator defense do something the offense was unable to accomplish: score a couple points—but this recruitment is all about the Buckeyes and Tigers. While Gus Malzahn's job is safe, defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is rumored to be a frontrunner for the South Carolina head coaching job as well as the defensive coordinator under new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.

Could Muschamp leave Auburn? Not sure, but right now it seems likely. Will it matter for the Jackson family or is their relationship with defensive line coach (and lead recruiter) Rodney Gardner strong enough to overcome a potential change? We will have to wait and find out. Perhaps the most important factor here: Is Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson going anywhere? It certainly doesn't seem like it, and that has been the key relationship for both Jackson and his father. The early enrollee is expected to make a decision here within the next few weeks and it will be interesting to see if some changes at Auburn will be a factor.
