tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Instead of putting this in recruit threads, I was wondering what the recruiting experts thought would be the significance if any of 2014 recruits that have already committed to other schools now that we have hired Johnson and Ash. I was also wondering what parts of the country Ash recruited while he was at Wisconsin and Arkansas not to mention Iowa State. I did not see that info in his bio. Thanks.

Seems like 23 recruits is a possibility. Instead of taking Taylor and Solomon Thomas assuming we could land both why not land ST and Malik McDowell who has a chance to be an OT too? Yeah that's not going to happen but what a killer finish that would be!

Great question about Ash and we will try to dig up an answer. I do know he has Texas ties...which means him and Herman could be a force next recruiting cycle.

I don't think there is anyone currently committed to PSU (other than possibly Holley) or Arkansas that OSU will be targeting but I don't know that for sure. Froholdt in the '15 class could be one but personally I think OSU will look to do better.

Per Rivals, his recruiting territory for Arky was Chicago, northern Houston and East Texas.

Who gets early playing time?
Obviously McMillen because of need and his coming in early is a huge advantage.
I like Hubbard's skill set at Lber. He played safety before moving down to LBer so he knows how to cover.
Booker also is very impressive but I'm not sure about his size.
Samuel and Dixon both are in early but they will have to be exceptional to get on the field this year. Maybe Samuel is a better bet for playing time because he can play the slot.
The 2 DBs out of Glenville are exceptional. I like Smith more right now. He was very impressive all week and in the Army AA Game.
Thoughts?

Early playing time in meaningful minutes? My money would be on none of the above.

RM first out of sheer need then my money is on Curtis Samuel. Urb absolutely loves this guy, his body is just as developed as Dontre's at this point and he is enrolling early. I fully expect him to see the field the same or more than Dontre did this year.

Most underrated in this class and earliest impact are different questions, so I will throw my 2 cents in. The most obvious answer is Nuernberger since he will presumably start at kicker. But I will go ahead and make my bold predictions:

Offense: I like Samuel for skilled positions. Alot to like about Dixon but I think Samuel is a receiving threat that can run, whereas Dontre is a running threat that can catch. I say this because Samuel is a guy that can flat out make big plays happen if you get the ball in his hands. We need more of that on offense and I just think he is ready to go...I think you will see a legitimate 185-190 lb. Samuel by the time August hits and with no loss in playmaking ability. As for my bigs, I think we see Knox get in the early two-deep and push for a starting spot. He doesn't need much weight redistribution and is physically a grueling specimen. Lots of lower body strength and his talent is off the charts. I would not be surprised to see Meech take over a guard spot if anyone falters in any way.

Defense: I think we see 3 guys get some serious time on defense. McMillan seems like an obvious choice but I think Mitchell steps up and runs away with one of the spots (and one of Perry or Trey Johnson takes the other one/two spots). I see McMillan playing some regardless but he really needs to stay lean coming into Columbus...I could see him getting too big if he isn't careful. Either way, he plays some decent minutes. Booker could also get immediate time and thrive, all depends on how he picks up the game mentally. My next pick is Solomon Thomas if he comes here. If not, nobody on the DL. In the back 4, my pick is Webb...outstanding coverage skills and he could be sent in to shut down a good receiver. Erick Smith is also a great tackler and has fantastic instincts in coverage...I think he will be great, just no sure if it is right away. Lattimore will be awesome in the secondary, but stands to make a more immediate impact on offense.
