tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Why is griffin even being mentioned by name, isn't that against BP rules? And also, why would we ask a kid to change his scholarship status when he's contributed quite well since he's been in S&G? He's given good depth on special teams and as a second teamer. If I do remember he stepped in on a few occasions when reeves wasn't ready for the college game. We should probably hold out on naming names of kids, just so we can bring in recruits. If the staff sees fit to find ways to make this a bigger class, it'll happen, until then we should be content with the stellar class we currently have, and will have if we close with 21-22.

I'm not going to speculate on who will still be around next year. Simply not fair to those involved. Most of what brutus2002 has said is possible but highly improbable. But I'm not going to comment on names. That's not how we've ever done things around here.

The difference is I am not naming names because I want those players gone. I am naming them because they are in unique situations. We don't get player committed to us that are the son of men as wealthy as Archie or who have a position as high as he does at OSU...

J.T. Moore from every account I have read is one heck of a teammate and leader...the kinda guy you want on your team. If the staff offered him a grad assistant spot IMO he would take it. A college coach over 30-34 years is gonna make more than the average pro football player...might starve at first but down the road he will be set...ask Marcus Freeman who from what I hear is turning into a very very good coach...

My point was there are things that happen behind the scenes. There have been one transfer and one dismissal we did not expect.

I have no inside scoop. I am just wondering why every time on go on various boards they seem to think we offer a kid like Berrios to make him wait if he wants to commit.

The committable and non committable offers are generally like this. A committable offer goes to high end talent the staff has seen enough of to warrant an offer. A non-committable offer is for kids that have talent but the staff wants morefilm/see them in person to become committable. tHEY WANT THEM TO CAMP...Berrios has 2 years in a row.

Berrios has a committable offer. The staff knows Brown and Samuels are very close to committing.

The staff has to feel comfortable that we are now gonna be able to get to 24-25...it doesn't make sense. I agree 100%...but reading the "tea leaves" indicates we likely have more scholarships than we thought.

If they really wanted to I think OSU could take Griffin's scholarship and he'd still be eligible to play. I don't believe he ever took an official visit as a recruit therefore the NCAA doesn't view him as an "official recruit" & OSU can use his scholarship as they please w/o effecting his eligibility. With that being said Adam has earned his ship & I don't see any scenario in which Coach Meyer would ask him to give it up.

What you're smoking? I'd like some please.

Late? It's August 1st. NLOID is in February. This is not a "late" offer.

Shows how spoiled urban has made us as fans when late July-early august is a late offer. I thought mid-late January before NSD was late...

Again, not disagreeing with anything you're saying brutus2002 (other than the Adam Griffin stuff)...just saying I'm not going to speculate or drop names in the cases where we've heard rumblings.

Two reasons today is important:

1. Written scholarships can go out to seniors.

2. The Buckeyes football play this month.

I'm pretty sure fans were this spoiled way before Urban ever arrived, with "spoiled" being a nice euphemism for another adjective that's more rude.

If I remember correctly, when Bauserman was with the program some people wondered why he was on scholarship when the Pirates had agreed to provide money for college in his contract. The reason he had to be on scholarship is because he had taken an official visit to OSU and was hence officially recruited in the eyes of the NCAA and could not be classified as a walk-on. Adam never took an official visit to OSU so what's the NCAA rule that prevents OSU from saying he's a walk-on with a scholarship? I'm assuming that Oh8ch's response about the LOI is the reason but since you're apparently the expert can you confirm that?

I'll put it simply. You can't take people off of scholarship and then put them back on later to free up scholarships. Period.

Additionally, if it was me or my kid I'd consider it a slap in the face if the football program came to me and asked to go off of scholarship so another player could be recruited. Add in the fact that he was a contributing member of the team and the theory becomes even more ludicrous.

Adam never took an official visit to OSU so what's the NCAA rule that prevents OSU from saying he's a walk-on with a scholarship?

He received a verbal and written offer for a scholarship and signed a letter of intent. That is the criteria.

Old, but I assume it still applies -

NCAA Rules ? Definition of a Recruited Athlete
How does the NCAA define whether a prospect is considered a recruited athlete?
A prospect is considered a recruited athlete if the college takes one of the following actions:

If they provide the prospect with an official visit.
If they have an off-campus contact with the prospect or the prospect?s parents or legal guardians.
If they offer the prospect a National Letter of Intent or an athletic scholarship agreement.
If they initiate a telephone conversation with the prospect or his parents or legal guardians more than one time.

Back on topic we must get.

BN $ - Crystal Ballin': July

7/31

By Rubin...you can see this stuff for yourself by clicking on the recruits' profiles but the long and short is OSU is a veritable lock for Lattimore, Samule and Smith and is the favorite for McMillian, Mavety, Brown and Gesicki.

My predictions were:

Samuel
Lattimore
Smith
McMillian
Holley
Brown
Prince

If OSU were to instead end up with:

Samuel
Lattimore
Smith
McMillian
Mavety
Brown
Gesicki

Would like to see a true DT in there somewhere but I literally would take that class right now. I want Prince, Holley, Thomas, etc. but wouldn't complain about that list at all.
