Just can't figure how to squeeze him or any other TE (like Luatua) into this class...if someone else can, I'd appreciate the help.

Someone say they need help oversig.....i mean fitting players into and out of classes?

And showmebuck....The list you gave, I don't think one of the guys is really considering us.

Holley and Thomas aren't considering us?

Also, I admitted that several of the players are a prayer but we have a long way to go until signing day and anything can happen, for any player. Other than Watson I only listed the non committed ones. What about the possibility of an elite player flipping?

My point was that I have waivered on my thoughts of Prince or Mavety if we only take 5 for the OL. Mavety could certainly help right away and I am a big fan. I am just saying that if we landed Prince early would we still pursue Mavety and if we landed Gesecki and Samuel do we still have to land Brown? I realize Gesecki and Samuel are not the same skill positions as Brown but with limited numbers and lots of time left I don't know that I would be in a rush to fill up that's all I am saying.

You never know who you have a shot at down the road. There are just lots of possibilities out there. I was most concerned about recruiting for OL, LB, S, and WR (in approx order) headed into this year and I always place a premium on elite D Lineman. While we have done a GREAT job so far I would just love to have a spot for an elite player at one of these positions who becomes available late. We have an awful lot of elite talent interested in us, tight numbers, and a class already filling up pretty early which makes this debate more interesting that's all

We could have p to 20 commits before the seasons starts. I never thought that would happen for a few different reasons.

Samuel and Brown would be great to get locked in.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe there is more room than we know about.

I know Perkins surprised them and they were not expecting to have to turn Gardner away. Those are 2 unexpected scholarships the staff was not banking on.

Maybe Berrios is benefitting from extra room we don't know about.

There are ways the staff can add spots to this class as well. They can RS Griffin as a walkon next Fall and then put him on scholarship when we get the 3 schollies back. J.T. Moore might not want his 5th year...offer him a grad assistant spot if he wants to go into coaching.

I think this class is gonna be 24-25...I get a feeling things are happening behind the scenes.

Are you talking Adam Griffin? He is not a walk on. You can't take a recruited player off scholarship and not count him against the numbers.

I agree with your points. But I see Thomas as much more of a prayer than Holley right now. There is definitely a lot of time until NSD, but if you think about it, Our class is very top notch if you include the 4 we all have penciled in(Samuel, McMillan, smith and lattimore) and include one of prince or Mavety. I think gesicki is closer to a TE/h back, and brown is a larger pivot that can probably turn into an outside x WR over time. There's more need for a guy like brown than gesicki, IMO. And I also agree we need top notch d linemen, but we already Holmes, Thompson could be a beast with more coaching and finding the right position(whether it's DT or SDE), and Hubbard could possibly get big enough to move to DE. And we're sitting in good shape with Holley. I would definitely like to keep a schollie open for one elite guy for the end of the signing period, but if we were to end our class with:
Samuel
McMillan
Lattimore
Smith
Prince
Brown

None of us would be complaining. And that would be a top 3 class most likely. We're sitting in a good position

I don't think there is any logic to it at all. I think there are gonna be openings we as fans don't know about that are coming down the pike.

Just like Perkins and Gardner...both were out of the blue and unwanted by the staff.

There are situations where we can manufacture scholarship by bending the rules...for example. IIRC Underwood has had multiple health issues. If these continue we could apply for a Med Schollie.

Adam Griffin could be RS and put on walkon status next Fall and once the season is over that spring he can be put back on scholarship when we get our 3 back.

J.T. Moore may not take his 5th year. Offer him a grad assistant position. By all acoount he works his butt off and leads by example.

That's 20 right there

There are gonna be at least 4+ more. I think the offer to Berrios is very telling. They expect some dominoes to fall in the near future.

There is no way we are offering WR's at this point if we don't intend on having them be able to commit...

We absolutely need a HB to run this diamond formation. We need Gesiki very badly at the TE position. TE is a large part of Meyers offense.

There is also a chance to offer a kid or two a greyshirt...

I think this class gets to 24-25...they sure are offering kids like it is.

It doesn't make a lot of "sense" but then again we don't know whats going on behind the scenes.

Not to mention that he's a productive player on top of the whole Griffin family thing.

You asked and I answered.

It's not jerking him around. Heck he had a free ride at OSU no matter what because of Arhcie.

If you believe we are offering these kids just to say no to them I question your sanity.

No way we offer Berrios just to tell him no. We need Gesiki. We need another OL...we are not turning away Prince, Kwon, Holley, Samuel, Lattimore, or Smith...Once again there are things happening behind the scenes we do not know about. Once again it's not logicial because we don't know about it.

There are a couple of things we can do...whether the members on this board thinks its fair or whatever...there are things we can do.

BTW...Do you honestly think Meyer would try to RS/Walkon Archie's son without discussing it with him...c'mon man. Whether we do it or not it is a way we could open a spot.

I think its interesting how things are panning out...most exciting recruiting I have ever been around since I have been following it 20+ years.

If they really wanted to I think OSU could take Griffin's scholarship and he'd still be eligible to play. I don't believe he ever took an official visit as a recruit therefore the NCAA doesn't view him as an "official recruit" & OSU can use his scholarship as they please w/o effecting his eligibility. With that being said Adam has earned his ship & I don't see any scenario in which Coach Meyer would ask him to give it up.

Brutus2002, did you miss this?

That's fine but the rest of the post still remains.

There are obviously things happening that will open up scholarships...they are not public yet.

The commitment of Hooker and the offer to Berrios back this theory up IMO. Why offer a kid that has a non-committal offer this late. You saw him live and offered on the spot. Non-committal offers are for kids that you haven't seen live.

The number of spots in this class are likely 24-25..It doesn't have to be logical.

I think we are both just chasing this for the pedantics - but by offering Griffin an LOI or a scholarship they recruited him. As I understand it he was on scholarship before he ever tried out - that is not a walk on.

(To be clear, my use of the word "pedantic" is in no way related to anything that happened at PSU.)

If my memory serves me correctly I believe that he was offered by Trussel a full scholarship before ever trying out or walking on, making him a full scholarship member and therefore counting against the total team count.
