tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I hadn't seen that. Perhaps ND sees one of these guys playing a different position.

I'm sure one of Mustipher or Nelson (likely the former) will end up at DT. As for OSU, it seems we will need to refocus a bit, as both of these guys seemed like primary targets for the interior OL.

The way I see it, Braden Smith has never had OSU in serious consideration. Also, it seems like Orlando Brown has been put on the back burner. I think we stand a fighting chance with Prince and have a very good chance at one of Elumenor/Mavety. Add that to Jamarco Jones, who I see committing soon, and you really only need 1 more interior OL type. Luckily, we already have one OT in Trout and that would give us 2-3 more. It is much easier to convert a tackle down to guard than the other way around, as we have found out firsthand, so I certainly wouldn't rule out Trout or J. Jones moving down. I think the OL class could very likely end up as such (and would be a great class):

OG: Marcelys Jones- Top 250 player for sure and I think he is going to be one heck of an interior OL for us.

OG/OT: ?- This is where Nelson or Mustipher would've been nice...it would be huge if we could bring in Knox here. Other potential guys are Prince, R. Johnson, or Orlando Brown (if we land any of these, I would think one of Trout or J. Jones moves down). Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Nick Richardson get an offer as a guard if a few guys fall through.

OT: Kyle Trout- True OT imo but could also play guard. Reminds me of Mewhort quite a bit.

OT: Jamarco Jones- Expecting a commitment soon and while I think he is a prototypical RT prospect, he could easily slide down and be a great guard.

OT: Elumenor/Mavety- Either one of these guys can come in and man the starting LT spot right away and seeing as this is what UFM seems to want, I think he gets one of these guys.

- Not landing Nelson or Mustipher is discouraging but I would much rather have a slight deficiency in guards than tackles, especially since both of Gardner and Munger will be guards and only Lisle can play tackle from the last class. I say load up on pure tackles and move one of them down later. It has worked very well for our OL now with Norwell and Hall (both projected tackles in HS) as our starting guards.

Bill Greene thinks very highly of Alex Bookser (his offer sheet is also off the charts), who fits the bill here and was recently in Columbus for a visit.

Would it not be easier to get some more TE's in this class and eventually move them down to OT and move some of the recruited OT's to OG.

Although that worked relatively well once with Reid Fragel I don't think that is a recruiting strategy that will work well at all much less be one that we rely on. I mean, we could probably win the Big Ten doing that, but I think the staff is aiming a little higher these days.

Don't forget Kirk Barton:biggrin:

My bad. Read it too quickly. That number is probably pretty close to the number of "offers" Urban has put out there already nationally...lol. Compared to tressel's 30ish number and never w/o a trip to campus. Boy oh boy how different things are in just 2 years.

Ohio State 2014 recruits launch website
April, 18, 2013
By Adam Rittenberg | ESPN.com

College coaches often say the best recruiters are the players already on the team and those verbally committed to the program. Ohio State recruit Damon Webb and his fellow future Buckeyes are doing their part with a unique approach.

Webb, one of seven players verbally committed to Ohio State for the 2014 class, has launched a website to promote Ohio State, share recruiting stories and, most importantly, get others to play for the Scarlet and Gray. The site, 2014bucks.com, launched Wednesday with the mission to "recruit and have fun."

"We will share on and off the field stuff, our path to national signing day, our senior football seasons, and our upcoming visits to Columbus," the site reads. "We are champions and we are recruiting champions to help us win national championships! Are you the next Buck?"

Been awhile and I need a quick study break, so my best guess/wishlist for this class assuming 22 (I believe that was the # the staff has said they were thinking):

1. QB: Drew Barker- I see Watson sticking with Clemson as of now, but of course if/when Morris leaves and McMillan/Kitt pick OSU possibly along with a couple other GA guys, I could see him hopping on board. Watson is by far my top choice but if we miss on him, I still love Barker. Great talent and he is such a competitor.
2. RB: Joe Mixon- Aside from Hood, who is leaning hard elsewhere, Mixon is my favorite pure RB and with Campbell already aboard, we only need to add one RB in this class and Mixon seems very interested. Yes please.
3. RB/WR: Parris Campbell
4. RB/WR: Curtis Samuel- We are in great shape here and Samuel is crazy talented...most underrated prospect for 2014 imo.
5. WR: Marshon Lattimore- Could play DB but I think he is too dangerous with the ball in his hands to use him on defense.
6. WR: Demarre Kitt- Seems like a heavy OSU lean and I think McMillan will get him in this class.
7. TE: Mark Andrews- Might be a WR but either way, I like where we sit with him and he is my favorite target here. Bunting is intriguing behind him and I get the feeling UFM loves Blazevich...I have had the feeling Blazevich ends up in this class for some reason, not sure if we would take Blazevich and Andrews though.
8. OL: Kyle Trout
9. OL: Marcelys Jones
10. Jamarco Jones-Just a matter of time imo. The more I watch Jamarco and look at our needs, I think there is a high possibility we move him inside to guard (see the rest of my OL class and that will make sense to you...otherwise he is a good tackle prospect).
11. OL: Damian Prince- I think we are sitting in GREAT position here and I think a good visit and sit down with the staff could get Damian in this class sooner rather than later. Could play RT or LT but I think he is our future LT.
12. OL: Chad Mavety- Seems to be our best possibility of the two JUCOs but if we could get both, I would NOT rule out UFM taking both. Eluemunor is a great prospect but I see him at Bama or Rutgers unless we make a real move over the summer. Either way, I see whichever JUCO we get stepping in immediately for Jack at LT.
13. OL Alex Bookser/Demetrius Knox: I say the number for OL ideally is 6 if we get the right guys. I am not sure we hit that...I say we get the 5 above and I REALLY like Bookser as a tackle prospect and he seems very interested. Also, we are going to knock the doors down for Knox until NLOID...make no mistake about it, Knox is interested. Another down year for UT and look for movement. I also think Sharpe or Roderick Johnson are possibilities here.
14. DL: Dylan Thompson
15. DL: Lorenzo Carter- Maybe a pipe dream but at one point, many thought he was leaning OSU. All I know is we need a purer pass rusher to add to this class in the Spence mold. If not Carter, I think
16. DT: Chris Williams-I think UFM wants a pure DT in this class, Williams LOVES us, and he is the best at this position we have a shot at imo.
17. LB: Dante Booker- Seems the staff prefers Booker over Garrett to this point...if we have room for both then we take them imo. I really hope we have room for both, I think Garrett is going to be a star.
18. LB: Kyle Berger
19. Star/LB/LEO: Sam Hubbard
20. LB: Raekwon McMillan- All but in the bag and I see him as a starter alongside Trey Johnson and Mike Mitchell SOON.
21. DB: Damon Webb
22. DB: John JuJu Smith- ND is in the lead but he has a high interest in OSU and this is going to go until NLOID in all likelihood, so I think UFM pulls another Bell maneuver and shocks everyone. With Hubbard as a potential Star, a high caliber DB locked up in Webb, and last year's ridiculous class, I think we only want one more DB and it will need to be an elite guy like Smith or Peppers. I want Peppers but he is not trending well at all for us. Tony Brown is another elite guy we would want but I am thinking he stays south, likely LSU.
22.5(ish) DB: Erick Smith- Just realized Smith is likely going to end up in this class..I suppose take out a DL or OL for him here.

- Of course there is alot that can happen...you have to think Kief ends up in this class if he indeed has an OFFER. I really want to see Garrett in this class but seems the staff MIGHT be backing off some, not sure why. Perhaps it is just a momentary lull...however, could mean we are good with Hubbard, Berger, McMillan, and Booker. Other guys I really want to see in this class are Autry, Brown Jr., and Roderick Johnson.
