tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Same, but I'd put that at less than 5%. I think Stanford is still the leader. I'd be happy with closing the gap

It kind of feels like the Vonn Bell recruitment last November before Urban made his visit down to watch him in the playoffs. I think that visit kind of opened Bell's mind back up and he held off on committing to Bama.

Peppers has been talking about being pretty close to committing to Stanford. I think the goal for Urban this weekend should be to just buy more time to make the case for OSU and to continue to build the relationship.

The longer this goes, the more I like our chances.

Seems like WR may be the position to watch right now. A whole lot of top guys have either made recent visits or will be on campus soon.

Derek Kief, Lonnie Johnson, Chris Godwin, Drake Harris, Dallis Todd, Marshon Lattimore, Trevion Thompson, and I am probably missing a couple...

Seems like if one guy commits, the others could realize how tight spots are at the position and that if they wait too long, they could end up being left out. We also may get a clearer picture of which guys the staff would take a commitment from right now and which guys they maybe want to see a bit more of first.

It's interesting to see the difference in recruiting this year as the staff has been in place long enough to have a firmer foundation on evaluations. Now we're seeing them going hard after kids before they blow up on the national scene.

Would Campbell & Hubbard have been targeted so hard this early a year ago?

I am pretty sure this staff had a firm foundation on recruiting evaluations long before any of them stepped into recruiting for Ohio State. I really don't think the last 1 year would've had much of an effect on how the staff evaluates athletes.

You completely mistook what he meant.

It's not a matter of skill it's an issue of time & familiarity with the area.

Only three coaches on the current staff have long term experience recruiting Ohio as their primary area of focus...Fickell, Hinton & Coombs (through his storied HS coaching career).

Drayton had only been in Ohio a year before Meyer was hired, the same with Vrabel who had the added disadvantage of being a first time coach.

Withers, Herman, Warinner & Smith hadn't coached in Ohio before (if you don't count Warinner's one year at Akron in the mid 80's). Coach Meyer himself hasn't been primarily focused on the state of Ohio for almost a decade.

It isn't a coincidence that the first two classes featured many kids from states where the most experienced coaches spent years building relationships.

Just don't let it happen again or else I will be forced to do absolutely nothing in response.

Are you talking to yourself Oh8ch?

Technically, I believe he's talking to BKB.

But he is BKB.

So yes, he is talking to himself.

But then so are you, and so am I.
