They gave us their best shot. They came up short because a young QB put the offense on his back and while injured, teabagged the a damn fine defense, even considering their lack of depth.
The D stepped up and took a huge step. This game may not have helped perception, but it did help this team. They know how they respond come gut-check time.
Windy as [Mark May]. QB hurting. Horrible officiating both ways. A whole bunch of dropped interceptions and just an off night in so many ways against a team playing their hearts out. Overtime. Another ot. A win in an insane environment.
I don't know how anyone can see this as an extreme negative.
There's middle ground between 70-0 and the nonsense that was the 2nd half. They played like pussies in the 2nd half. I don't know if it was the coaches or the players, but it happened. I bought in to the hype around JT and the Heisman talk and the who starts when Braxton comes back talk.....all the pictures being posted on OSU coaches twitter feeds about JT being this and that. It's all bullshit when it comes down to it. They didn't trust him against a defense with a pulse. Very disappointing.Had a busy weekend, but trying to catch up with BP following a win and reading angry posts about Tom Herman, a conservative game plan featuring too many runs up the middle, and generally coaching "not to lose" with a 17 point lead is giving me flashbacks to Tressel and Bollman. Man. Some people just won't be happy unless OSU blows out e'erbody 70-0. The other team has kids on scholarship too, and those kids played their tails off last night. Very impressed with Franklin and his team.
It was ugly. I'm over it.
The best thing about being 6-1? The opportunity to go 7-1. Bring on the Illini.

I still love the kid, but he's not what I thought he was after all those cupcakes since VT. Thankfully I don't see another environment like that on the schedule for a long time.

It's a shame that people have such short memories. It wasn't that long ago that an OSU team made a habit of "winning ugly".
The game has changed somewhat in the past 12 years. And now with the sickening SEC bias, you have to win big every game to even been in the discussion of what team should bump out the third-best SEC team from a four-team playoff...2002. Wins at Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Purdue, and Illinois were all "ugly". Even at Northwestern wasn't great.
It's not ALL play calling. Nothing is ever ALL anything in football. But we threw downfield....what....3 times? We had a drive where 4 different people took snaps as the QB. This team supposedly had the #1 QB since the VT game, statistically. That's what I'm questioning. Did they know it was all smoke and mirrors against Kent St, Cinci, Maryland, and Rutgers? What I believe I saw was OSU not adjusting to Penn St's adjustments and running a lot of the same plays that worked in the first half with a QB with a bum wheel. PSU forced a couple short offensive series that allowed their defense to rest while their offense wore the OSU defense out. The penalties on OSU's defense (two roughing the passer penalties on stopped 3rd and longs) and JT's Pick-6 are what made it a game IMO. That's not all play calling.
Barrett has just tweaked his knee, so they ran Jones, Marshall, and Wilson out of the wildcat to give him a break. We had a drive where 4 different people took snaps as the QB. But to come out with a W is very encouraging imo. [Mark May] hit the fan from the beginning and tOSU NEVER quit. It was a gut check in the most hostile environment they'll see, and most of them have seen to date. What doesn't kill them makes them stronger in this case. They really showed heart.
Fair enough. What about the rest of the game?Barrett has just tweaked his knee, so they ran Jones, Marshall, and Wilson out of the wildcat to give him a break.
Ohio State is now 8-2 all-time in overtime games.
Ohio State is now 3-0 in games that go two overtimes or more: 2002 NC game vs. Miami (2OT); 2003 vs. NC State (3OT); 2014 Penn State (2OT)
