Game Thread tOSU @ Penn State, Oct 25th @ 8pm ET, ESPN

This game may be the best thing to happen prior to the MSU game. No way is MSU's atmosphere remotely close to what the Pedsters throw out. The team can also stop believing any "offensive juggernaut" headlines they may have been reading. Flaws were exposed, both in execution and coaching. Fortunately, we still got the win, showed guts in the OTs, and have a crappy opponent next week at home against whom we can get shit straight in preparation for Sparty...

I'd like to see a silver lining on this game, see that we beat a good D in a tough environment, but it's hard not to see and think that a really good football teams beats this PSU team easily. Seeing our offense revert was just sad. Reminded me far far far too much of Vtech, coaches cannot adjust to the pressure, playcalling goes into Jim Bollman mode... like seriously did he sneak up there and steal the OC headset?

You can look at this game and say that we toughed it out, but you also look at this game and think "[Mark May], we have to play a better D at their house in a few weeks in MSU, and as Vtech and PSU showed, constantly designing nice blitzes totally shuts down our offense and makes them go into careful mode.
False. This is the game that makes them play above their abilities. They aren't a good team at all....but when they play better than they really are, can you say that? This is like the Michigan teams of the 90s that were not as good as us. But they played up to their opponent because that game means something. Only in this case, the game only means something to one side. Maybe we should start treating this like a rivalry game, since they do.

This Penn State team barely beat Rutgers, got spanked 29-6 at home to NWstern, LOST to scUM one of the worst teams in the B10, those last 2 coming in their 2 games leading up to ours.

Some truth can be said about us being different, PSU coming off a bye, a night game in Beaver Stadium sure, but this OSU team with a high powered offense since Vtech came out and played scared the entire game long, and that is facilitated and led by the coaches. Offense took a step back on this one. Yes maybe this was needed for us, but we said that after Vtech too, can't say that all season long.

This PSU team let Gardner, the worst QB in the B10 to some people, throw 16/24 for 196 yds and a TD. PSU is fantastic at stopping the run, so why we felt the need to resort to inside draws and crap all night is beyond me.

I don't mean to be too harsh, but I pray this is a wake-up call. We play an Illinois team who just handed a good Minn their first B10 loss, we cannot afford to look ahead to MSU. I just hope we learn to adjust to the pressure that teams like Vtech and PSU bring or we are in deep deep trouble vs MSU. The environment there will be very similar, even colder, and their offense is definitely better than PSU. Hopefully we get it together.

And this program hasn't learned by now. Heck, if they just look back to 2005 they could see that a game like this is something to be weary of. They didn't come out prepared at all on the offensive end.

I do agree that we should treat it more of a rivalry, but I also think a strong team like FSU, Bama, Auburn, MSst, Oregon etc come out and beat PSU pretty good, especially with that kind of lead we had.

Because those teams listed above (except Florida State) would put Penn State away like Ohio State should have.

Yeah idk what was up with the play calling. Even with the picks JT was throwing 63% I'd blame the fact that it was only for 75 yards on us not spreading the field or throwing anything deep at all.

That was the most disgusting announcing I can remember...
Disappointingly, I could understand it from Blackledge
but Nessler spent the whole time blowing Blackledge and PSU

Yes, there were a couple really bad calls
but you two SUCK... as impartial as it gets

I was very happy Barrett and Bosa shoved it up your ass you homers

Like you said about not spreading the field, that attributes to his 63%. A large majority was off screens or quick slants. No down-field passes pretty much all night. When you have a great rushing D like PSU, you need to be able to spread the field, stretch it down to make sure they cannot stack the box, and we failed to do that at all. All the stuff we liked seeing in the last 4 games or so we decided to ignore. Pounding the ball at times is fine, but you have to open it up with spreading it around passing, something we failed to do, have to keep them honest.

Mili is right. This was our "tester". And we did find a way to win. That does count for more than just a "W" in the column. It builds your ability to not freak out in a night game against a team like Sparty. Sparty is going to have to deal with us, now. And if it goes to overtime I like our chances.
