So when we play a team with a top 10 defense, we're going to play like a bunch of scared children? That sucks. Is there a chance that maybe Penn State actually earned their top 10 defense ranking?

How do you know without trying? And still win? I could live with that. Yes the play calling could have been better, but maybe the long ball wasn't there because of the defense?

Also, to reiterate, "opening it up" could have been something as simple as rolling Barrett out of the pocket and giving him some easy throws into the flats. There is some middle ground between our most basic read option and launching it deep on every play. How do you know without trying?
Yeah...I'm not calling for 4 vert on every play. Penn State's line is dog shit and they figured out ways to get passes off. Also, to reiterate, "opening it up" could have been something as simple as rolling Barrett out of the pocket and giving him some easy throws into the flats. Was that the one where Smith didn't even close his arms to attempt the catch. That was odd.One of the bigger plays that I didn't see mentioned was Barett missing Smith on a wide open TD. He underthrew him by 5 yards.

He missed Dontre that bad just last week.Yeah, he came back for the ball and my only guess would be that he was screened out by the defender and didn't see it. If that ball is thrown into the endzone, easy TD. You have to wonder if the knee was affecting his throwing as well. JT hasn't missed a guy that bad all year.
And even in 2009, the defense manhandled Iowa on their series, so they didn't score. What I find pretty cool is that the last play in 9 of the 10 overtimes had Ohio State on defense. (I'm including field goal kicking on offense and field goal defending on defense.)
2002 at Illinois - Ohio State held on 4th down
2002 (2003) vs. Miami - Ohio State held on 4th down
2003 vs. NC State - Ohio State held on 4th down
2003 vs. Purdue - Purdue missed final field goal
2004 at Northwestern - Northwestern scored touchdown
2009 vs. Iowa - Ohio State made field goal (only game where Ohio State finished on "offense")
2011 at Purdue - Purdue scored touchdown
2012 vs. Purdue - Ohio State held on 4th down
2012 at Wisconsin - Ohio State held on 4th down
2014 at Penn State - Ohio State held on 4th down
Penn State got 1 long pass off. Everything else was dink and dunk.Yeah...I'm not calling for 4 vert on every play. Penn State's line is dog [Mark May] and they figured out ways to get passes off.
OK. Let's dink and dunk then. Do something to get our #1 QBR since VT QB going.Penn State got 1 long pass off. Everything else was dink and dunk.
