I rewatched the game with this in mind, and I now think the offense was somewhere between very good and outstanding. It's also a mind opener to learn that yielding 30 points and getting out-gained represents good defense. I'm slow, but learning.

:tibor:. Backpedal much? Not surprising. I'll remind you that you originally said the offense was "on the whole" bad. If you want to take two individual plays by Brax and suggest that tanked the game for the offense, be my guest. But I think you'll find yourself in a pretty small group of people that thinks OSU's offense "on the whole" was bad against Northwestern.

As for the defense, you're probably right about the slow part but that's about it. OSU didn't get out-gained in the game--you may want to check that one. That aside, I think 7 TFL, 5 sacks and 2 takeaways is pretty good, and giving up 30 isn't so bad when you consider NW has the 26th ranked scoring offense. Not that I'd expect you to put down the video game controller long enough to know any of that.

I don't blame them. We quite often get lined up and snap the ball in mere seconds in those situations. Seems they had done their homework and were ready for that to happen.

Me thinks you miss the context and subtle intent.

And - I haven't touched a video game controller since I played Atari Asteroids at age 13 - in 1977. Watched and played a lot of football in that time, but always willing to learn from more enlightened minds.

Um, Mushburger went to Northwestern.

I did note that when ESPN showed the highlights, they made the 4th down stand seem controversial, when there really was no controversy that came from the replay. It was pretty obvious they didn't get the 1st down, but whatever. There was an official looking right at the ball the whole time.

I think it is time people start understanding that just because another team plays good football it does not mean another team played bad football. Yes, there were issues in this game that can and will be addressed I am sure. Turnovers are never a good thing but a good defensive play can and will sometimes result in a turnover. The first fumble was a very good play by the DE. Looking at the play on film and in slow motion the coaches are probably telling Miller he did not ride the read long enough to make the DE commit one way or the other but Miller is making these plays in full speed and real time. That was his 3rd game of the year. He is still learning the reads.

The 2nd fumble was much worse because it was caused by a lack of focus on Millers part. It was still a very nice play by a blocked linebacker to manage to get his hand in there and punch it out but running in the middle of the field will always require a bit more focus on ball security.

I think NW played about as well as they could. Yes, they had turnovers as well and I am sure they feel some of those plays could have gone their way but overall I think they understand they did what needed to be done to win the game. They chose to take away our deep passing game. That opened up the short and medium range passes and the power running game. It took OSU a full half of football to adjust to this (though to be honest they still did anything they wanted offensively in the first half, just did not finish).

We are in a good spot now. We have a bye week at a great time. 2 very tough games to review film of, time to get healthy and work on the fundamentals that have started to slip just a bit and then when they do get back on the field it will be against a team that by no means should be overlooked but also should not pose as big of a threat as the last 2 games.

I know this has nothing to do with the football game but do not know where else to post it.. However, I thought it was extremely funny when Ohio State recovery that last-second fumble in the end zone and Brent Musburger said something like OH my bed I a lot of people are crunching numbers now and old Kirk did not have a clue at that moment as to what Brett was talking about. I mean the bookies only lost about 100 million when Bosa recovered that fumble.

Brent is famous for once having a pre-game show where he made picks opposite Jimmy the Greek. Herbie is famous for having a pre-game show where he makes picks opposite Lee Corso.

I'll leave it at that.

Here's a non scarlet view.

Hyde is a beast, he won the game for OSU, Miller got Devin/Denard turnover disease which made the game closer than it should have been.

As for your defense, I still believe the issue is Fickle and his play calling, he's just not a good game caller, I would bet UM switches this up. You have studs on D, so there is no reason to have these struggles IMO.

This game was a lot of fun to watch, it was just a good football game, and UM going nuts over the TO he lost was great. His face was peer anger.
