Game Thread tOSU at Nebraska, Sat October 8, 2011, 8 pm ET, ABC

Both Pelini and Fickell had weird pressers. Fickell just looked shell shocked -- it was like one of those "Want to get away?" Southwest commercials. I think after something like that you express either optimism, like "it's a tough, tough way to lose, but we have some positives to build on" or anger/resolve, like some variation on the Tebow speech -- "that's not Ohio State football, and that's not something you're going to see again".

I hate to say it, but there were shades of John Cooper there. :(

Pelini, on the other hand, was filled with barely contained rage. How you can come back from 21 points down and score 28 in little more than a quarter of football and not crack even the tiniest smile is beyond me. I can see being sarcastic, funny and picking on the reporters who gave your QB grief, but he was really graceless and humorless. Regardless of wins and losses, I have to wonder how long Tom Osborne is going to put up with that demeanor.

He knows Bo better than most. I, for one, love the guy being here. He's protective of his players (although he will get in their asses when they're playing poor and can do better). You have to read my previous post and the article - it WAS over the top, and these guys are still amateur athletes.

At least he didn't go all Mike Gundy on Dirk:

Oh, don't get me wrong -- I think you guys have the right coach, and I'd take him if he wanted to come back to Columbus. And I understand stepping up to defend your players. It's more the way he went about it, and the odd lack of joy after what was an historic win.

I guess we got very used to calm, cool, unflappable Senator Tressel around here, so it's kind of surprising to see big time coaches get so raw with reporters, even those who have stepped way over the line. Of course, Urban Meyer's gone nuclear on a reporter also, so it may be a generational difference with the younger coaches having a lot less patience with the media.

If you know anything about Bo, he's rarely happy, LOL

And I'd rather have a fired up coach than some guy sugar coating every damn thing (knapplc is about to kill me for this one):

I couldn't even watch the whole thing. To be fair, coaches' shows almost always suck, but that's a special level of suck. We'd have run that guy out of town pushing burning dumpsters down the street after him. :pirate1:

To understand Bo's post-game presser, you'd have to have read a series of articles by an Omaha World Herald reporter dating back to last year. This guy has been on Taylor Martinez's jock since the Texas game last year, insinuating that he needs to be benched, or just quit the team. It's pretty ridiculous.

Friday, just before the game, this same jackwad writes what amounts to an opinion piece stating that if the Huskers lose this game, both Martinez and Bo are likely out the door.

Bo then goes to the presser, this twit asks a question, and Bo gives his "You were there, what do you think?" response. Instead of letting it go, the reporter peppers Bo with about six/seven questions in maybe 30 seconds, and Bo had had enough.

It should have been handled privately rather than in the press room like that. But to get an idea how the local media feels about this clown, when Bo left the presser, that was the other media members applauding, and they were applauding for the dressing-down Bo gave that guy.

Ohio State once won a game 2-0. 1920s or 30s or something. But that was because the other team wouldn't play. They disputed how long each half should be or something and they left when Ohio State wouldn't agree to the change of the length of each half.

This was against Denison in 1905.

Dispatch

The Buckeyes defeated Denison University 2-0 in 1905 without running a single play from scrimmage.

Ohio State insisted upon playing 35-minute halves, while Denison wanted the halves to be shorter. Section A of college football rule 12 stated: "The length of the game shall be 70 minutes, divided into two halves of 35 minutes each, exclusive of time taken out. There shall be a ten-minute intermission between the two halves. The game may be of shorter duration by mutual consent between the captains of the contesting teams.?

When the Ohio State and Denison captains could not agree upon the length of the halves, the officials ruled in favor of Ohio State because there was not a mutual consent about the change. Denison refused to take the field. After a warning and two-minute wait, the game was forfeited to Ohio State.

Most fans, while criticizing the handling of the entire affair, stood in line to receive a refund on the cost of their tickets. While Ohio State won the game, it lost at the gate. Ticket sales totaled $1,078, and refunds amounted to $1,206 -- a loss of $128. Several children apparently sneaked inside University Field that afternoon, then stood in line and received their "refunds.?

Hi everyone, Just finished watching this one, as I was starting to wonder where OSu would be ranked unbelievable disaster stroke !! Joe Bausermann I don?t know what to say. I also blame the offensive coaching staff, they should manage the clock better than that , considering that the running was effective. Not only did he throw 1/10 and an interception, but he didn?t kill the clock by running the ball or keeping it for scrambles. Throwing into double coverage, what ? We also need a better TE and WR, to have separation and target to throw the ball. But I wonder if they run the same pattern if JB is QB, when you know that the ball will never come near you. B. Miller was great, but it?s the coaching staff?s job to teach him how to slide, and to protect the ball with TWO hands while he is running. Sometimes he also could get rid of the ball, we will see 2nd & 10. But he is a promising recruit !! Special teams don?t play this great since the beginning of the season, short kick offs , mistackling hurt Defense is improving, and should get more picks in the future, I love their toughness even if it means too much penalties This team can to so much better , I hope we will see more what we saw in 3 quarters of excellent football. Thx buckeye planet from France, where a French former student can get OSU games. Love it and the fast releases

I had a great time in Lincoln, and was treated by a first rate Husker. I was picked up at the Horsehoe Casino in Council Bluffs (where my hotel was), and driven to campus in his Range Rover. It was me, my friend (Played for Woody), Husker Fan (Who works for my friend's company), and Husker wife. We drove straight to SideTracks. We were there very early, and I got to talk to the 2 guys running the show there. They had me on the microphone every ten minutes or so, singing the fight song, singing sloopy, etc. They even let me get up, and toast the Husker fans, and sing the alternate scUM fight song. They fucking loved it. We then went to a Bicardi tailgate that had free booze, food, and beer. It was awesome. Before the game, We went to the Champions Club across from the stadium, and drank there. I guess our host was connected, as these were tough tickets to get. anyways, I would highly recommend Lincoln to any Buckeyes, and would love to go back!

Guys I'm done posting. I don't want to be banned as I'm upset at bauserman, the defense and especially Martinez and burkhead. Good luck the rest of the season Nebraska and hope those 2 continue to play well so I don't feel so bad.

My wife and I were at the game. My God I've never seen such a huge difference between a 1st half and a 2nd half. This was the largest comeback in Husker history ever. And several of the long-time Nebraska sportswriters said it was the loudest that stadium has ever been during the 2nd half comeback.

Braxton's loss explains the ineffectiveness on O, but the turnaround with your D vs. our O defies all explanations! A Buckeye fan was sitting next to me (with my Buckeye wife on my other side!) and he was obviously just totally shell-shocked.

I haven't read about the determination of how serious Miller's injury is. Here's hoping he's back on the field quickly, and I'll be rooting for the Buck's to win out for the rest of the regular season. Good luck, Bucks!

Glad you had such a good time in Lincoln (minus the game result, of course) and now I'm wondering if I might have met you. That Bacardi tailgate is put on by the Husker site I call home - HuskerMax - and co-sponsored by Bacardi. My wife and I met several Buckeyes fans there Saturday and had some great conversations. I got a bunch of pictures, as well as contact info on a couple of the Buckeye fans who said lets stay in touch, and said they'd try to help get us tickets to the Shoe next year for the Husker game. By the way, getting into that tailgate requires paid membership on the HuskerMax site, and an advance RSVP - UNLESS you're a fan of the opposing team, in which case you're invited in as a show of Husker hospitality.

Oh - and you're right about the toughness of admission to the Champions Club - I hear that membership there was originally $20,000 plus an annual fee of $1,000 or so. Memberships are sold out, have been for some time, and are going on the secondary market now for $35,000 and up, according to some we spoke to there on Friday (when they let us in to walk around - I'm not one of the well-heeled members!)
