tOSU at Minnesota, Thurs. Sep 2nd, 8 ET on Fox

You aren't helping me with my confidence for this game lol... that said we shouldn't forget that Minnesota was pretty bad at stopping the run last year and they do not match up well with our WRs at all.

How this game goes will be on CJ. If CJ comes out blazing I think we cover but if they can pressure and confuse him then look out. At a minimum this could be a 4 quarter game but we could very well lose this game if they can pressure CJ.

I think PJ is a great coach and yes his ability to motivate the Gophers all off season I don't is stated enough either.

We've lost to worse teams than this that's for sure.
I think if the run D is as bad as it was last year, the game doesn't rely much on Stroud at all. It'll be 4 tackles and a center grading the road for six all night long. That's not to say OSU won't throw. They surely will. But, I think the Buckeyes game plan may be to pound them more than to fly over them.

We would be wise to replicate 2019 when JF was so unproven. We have a better offensive line than then, we are much deeper at RB than then (Albeit no JK Dobbins), have a more talented WR room and even have a more talented TE room than 2019. This offense is a complete nightmare for any defense provided CJ makes the 17-24 throws per game that he's asked to make.

Wow, so we're already quitting on the 4 QB diamond formation? Disappointed.

With how ahead CJ seems to be than the others I'd have to disagree. If CJ struggles I doubt Kyle steps in and goes off.

At any rate I don't expect CJ to get rattled. Too much run game physicality and weapons for that to happen here.

Agree 100%. However, I remember thinking in 2004 that Zwick was going to come in and be Mr. Heisman contender. Or... at least, we'd see him being that in 2 years. I never thought Troy Smith was going to be the guy.
Not that I go to practice to see what's up, or anything. But that's how I saw it. CJ Stroud may be so far ahead in practice. But gametime may be different.

Again, I'm not too worried. I think Stroud will be great. And, if not, like I said, next man up.

Zwick had Tressel and Bollman

Stroud has Ryan Day

He could still bomb but I like his chances better at the start

The buzz coming out of camp when Zwick and Smith first showed up was all about Smith.

I remember Chris Spielman talking about it on the radio show he had at the time. Radio guys talked about Zwick, callers talked about Zwick. Spiels said “don’t count out Smith.”

I don’t remember the specifics, but I do remember that Smith did more at practice that got his (and others’) attention, and it had more to do with his arm than his legs.

The buzz coming out of this camp is all about Stroud.

If he has to get pulled, it will be because he melts when the lights are on and can’t perform in games like he does in practice. If that’s the case, I expect we’ll have someone on the roster that will be able to perform in games like he does in practice, and that will be good enough.

Then again, Day learned to recruit competitors from Urban Meyer. The kind of guys that choose Ohio State play pretty well when the lights are on these days.

I expect Stroud will be fine.
I expect the rowboat is fixing to get torpedoed.

You know, take this however anyone wants too….but I just think Day’s system and talent with said system is so good……anyone at QB with decent talent will look solid.

Right?

It’s hard to identify Burrow over Haskins when Haskins is performing exceptionally well in system.

At time, OSU had talent, but Zwick wasn’t working behind an elite offensive line. In fact, compared to the Meyer/Day years it was average at best.

WR was solid no doubt….as was RB. I just think Troy saw more success because they could use him more uniquely. God, those plays where they’d sprint him from pocket as if it was a QB sprint or option, and then he’d step back and drop a dime…….some of my all-time favorite plays.

Everytime that happened it was a "stand up out of your seat" and hold your breath play.

We actually did that a few times with Justin the past 2 years too.

Second year in a row, Minnie opens at home against a presumed superior opponent, second year in a row their media coverage claims them as a legit threat to win the West. Last year a Michigan team that would go 2 - 4 - chicken shit, beat them like a drum. That Michigan team's starting QB was Milton. Milton > Stroud? I don't think so. I don't see that changing because this Buckeye team is way ahead of that Michigan team.
