tOSU at Minnesota, Thurs. Sep 2nd, 8 ET on Fox

In my gut and on paper, I agree. If talent is what carries the day, we absolutely crush Minny. But the first game Thursday night on the road with a new QB and qualified opponent (and good coach imo) makes me cautious that this could be a fight. I think we win and hell, we could trounce them if we play to our talent, but I am not in the camp that thinks we bet them by 21+ as much as I want that to happen. If I am wrong, I will be dancing on a Golden Gopher's grave while doing it.

I question the cover very much for all the reasons you listed. A double digit conference underdog, at home on Thursday night was an auto bet in CFB for years. Forget the names and just take the points kind of thing.

Looking at these two teams specifically, Minny knows damn well they can't just sit back on defense so they are left with no choice but to focus on confusing and blitzing the living shit out of a first start QB. We'll see the same from Oregon in game 2. I don't care how well he's been developed so far, Stroud won't be as good against disguised coverages and blitzes in his first game as he will be eventually.

These are all legit reasons to expect a closer than comfortable game.

That plus I would think Minnesota will have some ball control which should limit how many possessions we have too.

These games always scare me. No way should Minnesota beat Ohio State. But no way Purdue should have beaten Ohio State in 2018, or Iowa in 2017, or Penn State in 2016, or Purdue in 2011. And yeah, these games are rare, but they happen often enough that I'm not going to count the chickens before they hatch.

All due respect to Ibrahim, but I don't see anybody beating us with an RB. I am more concerned with an experienced QB against an unproven back 7. That could get them a few TDs, but not enough to keep pace with our O provided Stroud limits his mistakes. That could be addressed with a simple game plan that features short passes and lots of running behind a very large OL.

But Day wont go that way and will just blow them up.

First half could be close. By the 4th Q the DL and OL will take control and we will be racking up the points.

Damn I'm arrogant.
Your assessment couldn't be more off base.

The entire Western Division lives off of recruiting solid 3 star athletes and developing them for 4 or 5 years.

Well, last year we had Covid and now we have something called "super seniors". That is not a big deal for OSU. Most of our seniors and our more talented juniors went to the NFL - Covid be damned.

Minnesota starts 17 seniors and has another 11 seniors in their two deep. Not just a year more experienced, but a year older and bigger and stronger.

I will always remember Anthony Schlegel's response when asked to compare the talent on OSU to Air Force after he transferred here. He said that the talent gap among starters was not as great as he expected. The real difference, according to him, was in the depth. The kids who got worn our or banged up and had to be replaced. That was why teams like AF faded in the 4th quarter. Minnesota has the depth.

An experienced QB picking on an untested secondary in their first game together. A talented RB running behind an OL that will execute like a well oiled machine. A defense that will be salivating to confuse and exploit the mistakes of a rookie QB. All in front of a fired up home crowd at night rooting for a team with everything to prove and playing for a coach who knows how to motivate. Minnie wont quit and they will have the depth to keep rowing strong till the final whistle.

You arrogance is surpassed only by your ignorance of all things football (as anyone who follows this site knows all too well).

Hold on to your seats because this is going to the wire.

You aren't helping me with my confidence for this game lol... that said we shouldn't forget that Minnesota was pretty bad at stopping the run last year and they do not match up well with our WRs at all.

How this game goes will be on CJ. If CJ comes out blazing I think we cover but if they can pressure and confuse him then look out. At a minimum this could be a 4 quarter game but we could very well lose this game if they can pressure CJ.

I think PJ is a great coach and yes his ability to motivate the Gophers all off season I don't is stated enough either.

We've lost to worse teams than this that's for sure.

You guys need to learn how to get along. You're acting like you hate each other. We're all Buckeyes here.

How this game goes will be on CJ.

You're probably right, but I don't think it has to. If Day is willing to bench Stroud if he isn't performing, then we should be okay. You'd think that one of the three of those quarterbacks has enough to beat Minnesota. If none can beat Minnesota, then Ohio State shouldn't win, anyway. I think that the only problem with my theory is that Day needs to know when to bench the wrong guys and know who the right guy to play is. If it's CJ right out of the gate, then we win by (name your score here). If Stroud isn't playing well, Day needs to know when to put in the next guy.
So.. in that sense, it's not all on CJ. It's on Day (and the next man up).

With how ahead CJ seems to be than the others I'd have to disagree. If CJ struggles I doubt Kyle steps in and goes off.

At any rate I don't expect CJ to get rattled. Too much run game physicality and weapons for that to happen here.
