Game Thread tOSU at Indiana - Oct 13, 8 ET, BTN

It's obvious some of the coaches are in way over their heads, but it's also on the players.

Why is a school like Ohio State starting a converted FB at linebacker? A guy who hasn't played the position since high school.

Something is extremely wrong on the defensive side of the ball.

Not going to name names, but I wouldn't put this mainly on Fickell and Vrabel. For one thing, the 15 yard cushion we regularly enjoy giving opposing wr's, especially on 3rd and short, simply HAS to go. Poor to decent tackling all around, some poorly designed coverage schemes, corners and safeties seemed to get beat relatively often, going for big hits over wrapping up. I don't know what to say

I dislike the huge cushion as much as everybody else, but do you really want those guys close to the line? With these LBs and safeties?

There are big deficiencies in personnel right now. That said, the coaching on that side of the ball does need questioned. If you don't have the talent, you can at least get your players to play smart. Lord knows there are plenty of mediocre teams out there that can at least inspire sound, smart football with lesser players. Why isn't that happening here?

The sad thing is, the defensive line is actually not bad at all. They are just getting wasted with no support from the back 7.

Agreed. With the exception of Roby, the back 7 has been under-achieving all season long. Too much bend but don't break... Except.... They are breaking... A lot.

The play where there were two personal foul calls.... One on the hit from Johnson=COMPLETE BULL[Mark May].

I mean, what the [censored] do you want them to do? Take pillows onto the field with them and pillow fight it out? I'm getting a little sick of the "defenseless receiver" bull[Mark May].

Sure the 15 yarder on Hankins was a decent call, but TWO personal fouls in one play?! Come the [censored] on.

These refs did everything in their power to keep Indiana in this game.

No, the defense didn't do a whole lot to prevent IU from scoring, but they did enough until the refs decided every call would go IU's way.

Yet another week goes by, and I've seen at least 5-7 plays where players were being held that went uncalled. I don't know if it's this specific officiating crew, but did I miss something? Is Holding not enforced anymore?

Stop blaming the damn refs. Ohio State should kick Indiana's ass regardless..... The real problem is on our defensive side of the ball.

I really looked that way what with the INT, Hyde's TD and the onside kick. I guess they only need indisputable evidence when it helps Ohio State....

How in the fuck was there enough evidence that Hyde was down before the goal line?

I. Just. Don't. Get. It.

People complain about missed holding calls in every football game. I usually think to myself, "deal with it. Happens all the time."

Today, I felt like one of those complainers after watching this game. I counted at least 13 no holding calls today. I started mid way in the 2nd quarter.

Fickell is the DC, if there are scheme problems, it lies on his shoulders.

Withers and Fick are both co-DC. Maybe they just have fundamentally opposite philosophies and they need to mesh, maybe Withers NFL experience isn't translating to college kids, whatever it is... it must be fixed.

THIS...the INT that was reversed was way more questionable than the onside kick blunder....

but at the end of the day...49 points to Indiana...? Again, it still feels like a loss to me.
