Game Thread Toledo at tOSU, Sept. 10, Noon ET, BTN

The only negative thing I'm going to say is this:

That expression where a team progresses the most between the first and second game is bull[Mark May].

Akron was a practice, Toledo was out first game so what will count is how we progress before Miami.

I am not being negative towards the team. I am just perplexed as to the manner that Fickell is handling the QB situation. I know he's new to this, but that game yesterday looked like he was trying to imitate Tress, not be coach Fickell. The only difference is that Tress would not be making statements about both QB's being even and then not give the other at least a series or two against Toledo.

I hate to say it, but Fickell looked like he was in over his head yesterday. I hope that I am wrong and he proves me wrong, but it's tough to learn on the job as a new head coach at OSU under the circumstances which he was dealt.

This was my impression as well. As you said in some other post Fickell doesn't have his "sea legs" yet.

He'll find his identity, which will give the team its identity, soon. I hope?

We knew there were going to be growing pains with the change of leadership. He needs to open up his personality. Or, I suppose, maybe this is his personality. He is a defensive guy. . .

you people will have much more happy, successful lives if you concentrate on fixing things that YOU can control. we're now 2 games in and 2-0, and some of you numbskulls already want to fire the coach because your golden boy recruit didn't get a chance to play in a lackluster game. let's flip the script, shall we? what if Miller came in and threw a pick-6? how would a LOSS to Toledo taste? you people are ridiculous.

There are guys I wouldn't let off the feild on offense right now.
Stoney, leave him him, we need playmakers.
Hyde, he's doing pretty much everything right. Blocking, running and effort. Ball security, also.
Devin Smith, we need playmakers on offense.
Chris Fields, another guy who just stay on the felid most of the time.
Joe B. , he's our best option right now and not making mistakes. But he admitted getting tired so you have to give him a break by giving Braxton a series or two.
We need any combo of Berry/Hall back to be better on offense. Hyde will get tired also and tired players make mistakes. Rod Smith's fumbles have been costly. He needs to not play in critical situations. (like with 3:15 left in a game and we're clinging to a leade).

Toledo played like their hair was on fire. OSU seemed distracted by the off field issues. I have no idea what OSU's mindset was, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were caught off guard to be in a dog fight with the Rockets (especially after handling Akorn with ease).

I hope the coaches can tap into the angry, us against the world mindset going forward.

I also hope the Rockets haven't used all their mojo in their near upset of tOSU so they can at least hang around with Boise on Fri. That would be gratifying if they actually beat the TDU donkeys. I think that should be a good game.

One silver lining to all this hoopla is this: Half our damn starters on offense are out. If we find ways to win games from here on out until Nebraska, I'll be freaking ecstatic. If we beat MSU, Neb, and Wisconsin, we'll definitely be in the Top 10. Hell Top 5 even.

Easy man..... You can get your point across without all the "STFU" stuff. Quite frankly, your point (a valid one) was lost on me simply because of the nature of your post. I do not want Fickell fired, I am pulling like hell for him.

I don't think there is anything wrong with questioning Fickell continuing to say "we have QB 1a and 1b" and then proceed to not play 1b at all, offering a vague explanation. That seems to me like he's dodging the question. I have no problem with him not playing Miller if he doesn't think that he has the ability to lead the offense yet. What I do have a problem with is continuing to make statement's saying how they plan on using a 2 QB system and not playing the 2nd QB at all. Naturally, people are going to question that. A simple, straight forward answer would go a long ways towards making fans such as I "STFU".

I think LF is handcuffed with an offense that just isnt that good. This O is gutted and young. If we can only go for 300 yards against Toledo we could be in for a long year even with the return of Boom, Adams and Posey. Luke needs to light a fire under the offensive staff. They need to really pick it up and everyone is going to take the running game away.....just like Toledo did. Do we continue to try to run against 8 man fronts? Toledo is solid anybody wanna bet how many yards BSU puts up against them. Go Bucks

I gave my opinion earlier But I'm going to give the team coaches and Joe B a mulligan this week ...criticizing the use of Miller is not a crack at Joe B..Miller's skill set maybe needed if our line can't protect better.

I gave my objective opinion about what I expected for this game. And while sitting in the stands I wasn't surprised. I was berated by the overzealous fan, not happy that I was right. I figured our guys would get hit in the mouth, and I am glad they responded with enough to win. They will be focused going to Cryami. I think we win that game by more than the Toledo game. Especially with Harris starting at QB. I felt a trap game brewing and I am glad we got out alive. This could be the wake up call that gets the young guys to buy in to the one game at a time sentiment that they were saying they had coming into the Toledo game.

Oh, please. I've had to deal with arguments about what [censored]ing color a particular uniform stripe is. Deal with people having legitimate concerns about whether a promising young player is getting the PT we've been led by the coaching staff to expect.
