I know nearly all of this has been brought up in one form or another in the last dozen pages of posts, but some main thoughts for me:
1. Anyone who says this was the most frustrating Buckeye game they've seen needs to watch more Buckeye games. Wisconsin 2010? Purdue 2009? Texas 2009? USC 2008? Just to name a few in recent memory.
I'm probably included in that comment, so I'd like to respond.
First of all, when I referred to the frustration and disappointment I experienced, it was was in the context of games that I had attended, not all games ever played. And while I didn't attend any of the games you listed as examples, I have been to plenty of underwhelming Ohio State games.
Secondly, my frustration and disappointment do not necessarily stem from losing or the prospect of losing. There's no shame in struggling against great teams, or teams that do a lot of things really well. To me, there's really no sense in getting frustrated in an Ohio State team that comes out flat because with college kids that's going to happen every once in a while.
Where I get frustrated is when the Buckeyes are getting beat by a team that is basically only running three different plays with any sort of success. I get frustrated when I'm sitting in the stands and can call out what the other team is about to do, but the players and/or coaches seem to have no idea. Despite not getting frustrated by the occasional malaise, I do get upset when that attitude is not immediately erased by a blocked punt that was nearly housed by the other team and a first quarter 2-pt. conversion. Despite not getting frustrated by the malaise, I do get frustrated when the players on the field turn to the crowd, wave their arms and ask
me to raise my intensity when they clearly haven't raised their own intensity first.
As I said earlier in the thread, I've seen plenty of bad Buckeye football in my day, and I've been at The 'Shoe for plenty of losses and sleepwalks. To me, the only game that I've been to in person that frustrated me to this extent was the loss to Minnesota in 2000.
