I.d still like Miller in there a series or two then wait till we are down 17 and then throw him in.. he needs reps if hes gonna be back-up

Agreed, BUT ... do you INCREASE the risk of losing control of a game with an untested freshman? My point was not that Fickel's decision was right or wrong,
only that the time to make it was down 15-7 in the second quarter, NOT down
22-21 or up 27-22 in the second half, when just ONE freshman mistake costs
you the game.

The biggest hurt of the game was the lack of emotion.

Against Akron players were flying around having fun, cheering, body bumping, and high-fiving each other. Today the offense was flat, the defense was just going through the motions, and the ST looked bewildered. We needed a couple of players to not just make big plays but change the team's attitude as a whole.

Hopefully everyone will "get up" for Miami and be ready to have fun out there with all of the nation watching.

I'm glad that the team is taking a serious approach to the game, because it sounds like a lot of you guys aren't.

We've pulled out some squeekers early in the year against MAC competition FAR worse than what we'll face on Saturday. We were blessed to squeek by in those games. Other schools haven't been so lucky. For instance, I was part of the storming of the field when Toledo beat Larry Fitzgerald and #9 Pittsburgh in the Glass Bowl a number of years ago mid-season. Don't forget where we are right now and where we've come from over the offseason. Don't act like Toledo doesn't have a prayer, because this could be a trap game with Miami coming and we're still figuring out what we have after our beat down of a smouldering turd last week.

Ohio State ought to win and definetly has more talent... there's no denying that, but our reputation isn't going to win this game on its own. Come with an informed opinion and keep the chest thumping to yourselves.
Ahem...

We are a young team that still has a LOT of questions and we went up against a veteran, senior laden team with 18 returning starters from a MAC championship game team with a head coach that knows our team and our tendancies very well.

Glad that despite our mistakes and our youth, we came out with the win. And hats off to Toledo for the way they played today, but enough with the chest-thumping bullshit, guys. Seriously. This isn't Bucknuts.

Well I sure am eating crow. Toledo came out a determined team and really impressed me from a schematic and athletic standpoint. They committed a good amount of penalties but tons of fire all day.

Now that that's out of the way... Really shocked to see the push, or lack there of, from our offensive line. Seemed like not only were they getting pushed back a lot but they were missing assignments and guys were coming through untouched. Pretty upsetting.
I thought we were done with the special teams blunders. It was good to see the punt team get their act together after that but it's going to be more challenging next week IMO.
I was impressed with Verlon and Devin Smith today. Both were running good routes. The ball wasn't there on a few occasions but I am feeling better about our receiving corps.

I was unimpressed with Joe today. Very up and down. Joe had a good throw to Stoney early, a good throw to I think Smith over top of the zone, and a couple of good out throws. But he missed an easy TD to Smith in the second half. WIDE open. The crowd was really getting restless with some of his throws that were clearly throw away balls but he had a couple of really errant throws, especially in the second half. Really would have liked to see Braxton Miller get in there and see what he could have done.

Defensively, I thought we played okay. Bad tackling early. I noticed Nate Williams was running around in pre game but didn't suit up. I hadn't known he was out but it didn't look serious at all. It hurt our pass rush although Hank was a monster today.
Sabino looks out of place when he drops back into pass defense. Sweat looks very good in pass defense. I feel that Barnett might be the best player on that defense. He looks so good out there IMO. Love all of our corners too. They are great. We need to get more push on the line and our LBers just need a little more experience.

How many games do you want to lose to get him ready when we have a solid game manager right now who made no mistakes today? One more mistake today and we lose.
We could win a lot of games with Joe B. and this defense.

Conversely, one more throw that's not 10 yards over the receiver's head, and we win comfortably. I'm not sold that Miller is the answer yet, but I don't know how much longer how I can take Joey B. He's a game manager, not a team leader.
