I could come up with a hundred reasons why I don't like Tim Tebow...and 99 of them would be lies. The fact is the guy wins. He's got heart and character. I'm not saying he's the only guy out there that does but there are plenty out there that don't. If it was my team I'd want him..starting QB? Maybe... but I wouldn't want a guy like that playing against me anytime soon. Maybe the cowboys would be interested they could let Romo play the first three quarters........lol the cowboys. If nothing else he drives the experts at espn nuts. And even more importantly he is just killing Elway.

This season, every interview after the games, he lauds his team mates almost to a self deprecating level. He thanks the Defense, he says the receivers make him look better than he really is. He thanks the coaches..... At the end he says "God Bless" rather than goodbye... mother of god that is so offensive, shoving that God Bless down MY throat when I didn't ask for it. Who does he think he is?! How would he know I want to be blessed? The nerve of that guy.

I haven't heard him say anything about how good he is after a game. does he take a knee and pray here and there? Yep! Though some would prefer public prayer be outlawed, I would rather see someone take a knee more than the "discount double check" or the "Superman". Both of which are ego, look at me and how awesome I am moves.

It is astonishing to me how people like to bash a man who isn't afraid of telling people he believes in God and Jesus despite that really not being considered "cool" It's not like he is sitting in your living room, passing out literature.

Anyway... Go Tebow. Go Broncos.

I don't have any problem with him. I'm just still convinced he's a fullback with some passing ability (we'll see next year once defenses know his nuances).

However there is a one statement response to counter what you just said.

Matthew 6:5-8
Well Coqui, I don't think Tim prays to say, "Look at me! I'm praying and better than you because I'm Holier than Thou!!..see me praying because I'm a good person and you are not!" - which is sort of the gist of the passage you quote.

Jesus also directs his followers to Evangelize. Hard to say, "Go forth and spread the Good News and make Christianity known to folks - but Gosh sakes don't be seen praying!" I think a fair reading of both is that one should try to share one's Faith as much as possible - but to do so because of one's genuine concern for others, not because one seeks personal glory...or social standing or prestige.....or to be thought well of because one is seen publicly praying by the community.

I think the son of Evangelical Ministers is doing what he believes to be the right thing to do. People don't like it. See the fake story that went around about Tim trying to lead a group prayer at the combine Wonderlic. The haters lapped the story up when some blogger posted it because it stoked the fires of what makes them mad - Tim giving a public expression of Faith and some unknown player telling him to "[censored] off!", to which everyone laughed. Funny story to some I guess. But the reason Tim is liked by his team mates is because he simply does not do what he was accused of doing - interrupting everyone's thoughts when they are about to begin a test. If he was that guy, his team mates would tear him apart. Tim simply does his thing and tries to lead by example. If what he says interests you, fine. If not, fine.

But the fact that he mentions God first thing after a game instead of proclaiming that he is "a big time player who makes big time plays in big games", like we hear so much, is NOT the same as shoving it down our throats. If Tim's five to ten seconds of thanking God upsets people in their 24 hour/seven day week, then they have bigger issues in their lives than Tim.

(Not directed at Coqui - just using the post as a soapbox)

In a sports world that is filled with thugs and druggies I don't care where Tebow wears his religion. What he is doing in the NFL is an amazing story and that it shouldn't be happening is what makes it so. I hope Denver reaches the Superbowl. I might actually watch.

I haven't been this enthralled by an NFL player since George Blanda in 1970.

I encourage the haters to take a step back and enjoy it for what it is.

Don't worry, I wasn't taking as an attack. Although one of my priests did a good way to mention this once.

He said, "Go out and preach the gospel......only use words if you have to"

Also keep in ming I'm really only playing Devil's Advocate here. I don't personally care that he thanks God every time he scores.

Well put, Oh8ch. This is pretty much the position I've come around to (though I don't know who the heck George Blanda is :p ).

At this point, not being a fan (especially in CO) means missing all the fun.

Blanda? Owns the NFL "Most interceptions thrown" record. Chad Henne is gunnin' for 'em though...

While Tebow's TD/INT ratio is good (11/2) he is a classic example of the QB getting too much blame for losses and, more importantly, too much credit for wins.

He is completing a laughable 48.5% of his passes for a triple optionesque 117 yards per game. He has benefitted from an onside kick, a running back foolishly going out of bounds to stop the clock, and a couple of 60 yard field goals, among other things. Trading punches with Matt Moore and Caleb Hanie doesn't hurt, either.

Enjoy the Teboners, but even Viagra wears off after 4 hours (or so I've heard). Barring significant improvement in actually being an NFL caliber passer, Tebow's magic carpet ride is destined to crash sooner, not later.
