Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

With the game over and escaping Madison with a win, I hope cooler(and sober) heads are now viewing the real issues with this years offense. And sorry, but it has nothing to do with Beck! It was pretty sad reading all of the blame going on Becks head for the poor 1st half and play calling in general when Warriner was also in the booth, and Urban has final say in what plays go in. OSU was playing in a very hostile environment, at night against a team very good team that felt disrespected by outsiders and was brutally underrated by many(including myself). Beck and Warriner played a team that was playing last night, like it was for an NC and trying to avenge a 2014 utter embarrassment on the national stage. If anyone thought that this would be a cake walk and that Chyrst wouldn't have these kids playing out of their minds, then you're sorely mistaken. That was not Becks fault. And actually the strength of OSU's offense has been the play of our QB. If any blame should be handed out, it should be on our WR unit who is doing NO favors whatsoever to help out said QB on a consistent basis. Outside of Brown, no WR has consistently played well. Beck should stop being the fall guy, its getting old, especially when he's also working his butt off in recruiting as well. If you're going to complain about any coach, than start at the top with Meyer, and he'd admit as much. But at the end of the day almost all the units played horrible in the 1st half yet I saw now posts wanting the heads of LJsr, Fickell, Schiano, Coombs, etc, and trust me ALL of their units played like [Mark May] at first

While it's hard to say what's on WRs and what's on the QB, IMO Barrett's ball placement in 2014 was considerably better than it is now. Back then he was throwing a lot of balls that were not merely catchable, but that put WRs in position for YAC. Now, while he gets the ball there most of the time, albeit often just a hair late IMO, the accuracy isn't the same and WRs have to work harder just to make the catches and have less opportunity for YAC. Yes, in many cases they haven't helped JT out, but he's making them work harder than they should have to by being just a little bit inaccurate and/or late with the ball.

I'm no expert, but Beck's QBs have NEVER been especially accurate with the ball as far as I know, and I strongly suspect that he does not do a good job in teaching the fundamental mechanics of throwing the football and staying on his QBs until those mechanics become instinctual. As for the other coaches, we usually don't start pointing fingers until there's a trend of poor play, and we haven't seen that with their units (at least not since the 2013 secondary was getting torched . . . along with Fickell . . . by us). If you can name a QB at any program who has been coached by Tim Beck and who has been exceptional at throwing the football, which I can't, as opposed to naming LBs coached by Luke Fickell, DL coached by Larry Johnson, and DBs coached by Kerry Coombs and Greg Schiano who have been exceptional at their jobs, which I easily can, then I'll go easier on him. I do agree that he deserves credit as a recruiter and that ultimately the buck stops with Urban.

Our QB play has been less than good since Herman left. You can pretend it's a lot of different things. Occam and I will stick with the most obvious.....a QB coach who has been bad at every stop he's been at. One who needs our OLine coach to be in the booth so he can babysit, making our line suffer as well.
You can blame Beck all you want, but you can watch the games again and see that the WRs are getting little separation. Barrett is playing as good as any QB in the nation right now. Herman's first 2yrs at OSU weren't the greatest, and many fans sure bitched about his play calling against MSU in the B1G championship, yet he's remembered so fondly because he's gone and he won a title. Outside of Samuel the leading WRs in receptions have caught no more than 5 balls! That's unacceptable! You and any fan cab bitch about Beck and his QB coaching, but Barrett is a Heisman caliber QB who's having to do too much with his legs because there's little consistency, (yet all the talent in the world) at the WR position. You can think that Warriner is babysitting, but he's as much to blame for the bad play calling in the 1st half.
Too many Wide outs Barettt just needs more practice with the top 3. Paris, McLaurin and Brown with Samuel Wilsonuntil further notice.
Agreed. There needs to be some more time between QB and WRs that will step up all the time when it counts. The thought of a rotation sounds great on paper, but some guys are clearly not ready to play and make plays all of the time or even when needed.

I definitely see that our WRs are getting no separation, which is absolutely ridiculous with the speed we have at the position. I also think the play calling has been very suspect and inconsistent as has been JT. I hate the rollout pass plays, especially to the short side, as it limits his options. We seem to have no mid range, crossing routes, or seem routes. Hell what happened to the Jet Sweep? JT seems very tentative and unsure on many of his throws. He is holding the ball for what seems to be an eternity. Maybe this is on the receivers, I don't know.

It seems odd some of the plays they call. Nothing seems to be called to get the line or JT comfortable in the first quarter. I felt bad for Curtis last night because it seemed like a lot of his touches were part of some long developing play that everyone could see who was getting the ball. I would hope that getting the ball into a play makers hands as quickly as possible is something they strive for moving forward. I mean let them have a chance making that first guy miss without waiting so long that they need to make the first 3 guys miss.

Folks, I keep telling ya...you guys keep going back and drinking that same Kool-aid.....

From 06 - 14, we had two of the worst OCs in football.

One is in Austin helping his boss fill out a pink slip at the end of the season...

The other is in C-Bus right now...

Trust me when I say....if you have the opportunity to cut ties...

DO IT! DO IT NAHOW!!!

Issue is he's not Tom Herman and how could he be...To me his role in our program was greatly reduced and it's up to the play caller to put JT in positions to succeed.

Yes JT doesn't look as magical as he did in 14 and yeah I suppose as I'm game for the switch if it lands us someone big
