Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

This.

I still don't know why we brought in a pro style coach that had mediocre success at a program still clinging to its successes 20 years ago. Why weren't dollars thrown at Frost or any OC that runs up tempo, spread formations?

Beck won't be gone this offseason, but I fully expect next year to be his final test.
He should be gone and this should be his final test. I legitimately don't see how he can be kept after this year. This is literally almost the exact same offense as last year and it's completely regressed from even early last year. Even against VaTech with managed to put up 21 points and nearly 400 yards of total offense against a far better defense with a completely green offense. What makes you think Beck gets any better next when we lose a ton of our offense?

It could be a possibility for Beck to "find" a HC gig a la Withers at D 1AA or FCS school. Wouldn't need to fire him, and still could get an OC that fits the system better, I may be dreaming, but crazier things have happened in CFB

Agreed. This was an all time bad coaching performance. You can have a bad day. But you can't do this.

Sorry guys - I hate to see you guys lose this way.
It was like watching your closest relative dangle precariously from a ledge and you can't do anything but watch and wait for them to fall off.

Where the hell do you get that he is a 'pro style' coach?!?
He ran a similar offense down in Kansas as well. The dude didn't just fall off the turnip truck. He's familiar with this kind of offense.
He was the freaking "PASSING GAME COORDINATOR" under Mangino-Bear. Same team that won the Orange Bowl? Beck was on that team.

Let me help Urbs out...

HEY URBS!!!

The two guys that hired Beck as coordinators got their asses FIRED!

One guy been fired twice now!

Do the math!

This wasn't bad... this was non existent. We had no shot because of this performance. Frankly the more this night goes the more flabbergasted I am that this happened on the stage we were on. This DOES NOT happen to a Urban Meyer team in a big game... not the loss bit with how non competitive we really were

Man and doesn't Urban step in at some point and say "hey maybe we should try Zeke?". I just want to know what happened. Where is nevadabuck nowadays?

Look at the talent on this offense. Look at the results. Sometimes it's just that simple.
Not only that but, and I have to keep harping on this because it points out Beck's complete ineptitude, against the worst Michigan State defense Dantonio has ever had. For God's sake fucking Purdue put up more points and yards on this defense. So did Nebraska and fucking Rutgers. This is an all time bad loss. No way around it. This is a '98 level bad loss. At least Sparty had their entire fucking roster that game.

'98 was a gut punch because that team looked like a National Championship team. Today has felt inevitable all season.

Urbs is the same guy that was accused of running the score up against Oregon last year. He's got the killer instinct.
His Offensive coordinators, however, not looking that way.

Here's the funny thing, though.

This game was tailor made for CJ. Throwing the ball down the field on a secondary that couldn't stop Tommy Armstrong.

TOMMY FREAKING ARMSTRONG!!!

But CJ never got a look. But they pulled him when he wasn't doing so hot in favor of JT? C'mon...how's THAT look?
How do you think players would react to that?

Sorry. I didn't realize that Kansas and Nebraska were known for their spread attack, zone read offensive prowess

Never said either school was. Just said that he wasn't (obviously) a pro style coach and that he's run this kind of offense before.

Kansas ran the spread when he was the passing game coordinator. Reesing threw for over 61% completion and 33 TDs in 2007 when Beck was the play caller.

I went looking for game film of that 2007 Kansas team, but, like a sandwich in Mangino's hands, they haven't lasted long....

I believe your comments only support the other posters comments. Indeed it HAS felt inevitable all season because the play calling has sucked all season.
I've been at the front of the line in that regard.

It's been a perfect storm this year: a team that won a title a year earlier than expected and all of the hype leading up to this season (swollen egos); an unsettled qb situation; losing the best coordinator in cfb and bringing in a guy with, um, a spotty track record; barrage of injuries at wr; the Barrett ovi certainly didn't help anything. Bottom line, it's a disappointing season. They happen everywhere. We'll bounce back, but i worry that we lack the offensive coaches to win it all again until there's a shakeup.
