Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

If Woods is overly dogged by this, it becomes a race issue, imo.

FWIW, this is the kind of story that ESPN was made for.

I don't see how it will when he's repeatedly refused calls in the past to step up and speak out on behalf of "black" issues. He's been very careful to keep his brand as uncontroversial and universally appealing as he can, so I don't think that race will be a large part of this now.

Doesn't mean ESPiN won't try, though.

I know its the legal system and all, but the FHP just needs to let this go IMO. This is one of the richest and most powerful men in the world. If his wife kicked his ass and he wanted to end the marriage and get away then he could. He has shown that he just wants to move past this, and doesnt want any criminal charges to be filed to his wife.

If this was some middle of the road guy like you and me, I bet the cops wouldnt be trying to see if our significant other harmed us. They would just say screw it and in most cases wouldnt worry if the injuries matched the crash. Instead, these guys want to be the guys who took took Tiger Woods wife to court, and filled charges at her.

Anybody still think Tiger is being given special treatment?

It is very rare for law enforcement to seek a warrant for potential domestic violence if its clear the alleged victim does not want to pursue it.

However, with respect to the DUI investigation, law enforcement will typically attempt to obtain lab reports from the hospital. So that's not unusual.

In Ohio, at least, the physician-patient privilege has generally been abrogated with respect to DUI investigations. Therefore, Tiger's lab reports could be his undoing here, depending on Florida law.

TMZ reporting that the FHP is trying to obtain a warrant, and Tiger's house actually getting searched are a fair bit apart from being equal.

In related news, Gillette is changing their slogan to The Best Beating A Man Can Get!

How about a Pontiac commercial where a woman is beating a car with a golf club but unable to get in due to all the great security features? (Maybe it could save the brand.)

Or picture this... Tiger is lying on the ground while his empty car is running into the tree. A rep from Nike is standing over him, club in hand, saying "This would never happen with one of our drivers."

The possibilities are endless.

because if the spouse doesn't want to press charges, there is no investigation typically. Have you ever watched the show Cops? There are domestic disputes all the time in which officers implore victims to charge their attacker, but if they don't they drive away and say into the camera..."hopefully she smartens up or the abuse stops".

It's rare that police open an investigation into domestic abuse unless it's high profile. Typically they take the word of the victim (in this case Tiger) and leave it at that. But I don't see how they can't open an investigation in this scenario with the evidence that is already out there and potential DUI charges.

actually, in most states I believe the law says that if the cops get called for a domestic abuse claim that SOMEBODY has to go to jail. I'm pretty sure I've seen on COPS where the guy was hauled off to jail simply because the crackhead woman called the cops first. It's not fair, but it's the way the pendulum has swung so far toward protecting women that the law now blindly blames the male first.

Of course in this case the cops weren't actually called in. But when a licensed motor vehicle is involved in an accident, even if on privately owned property, the cops have a tremendous amount of latitude to investigate if there is reasonable suspicion that a crime occurred.

....I"m not a lawyer but just sayin

As has been brought up before, the laws inside and outside of gated communities work quite differently.

Wouldn't it stand to reason that if a crime happens right behind the gates of a gated community in plain sight of cops outside the gate, the cops outside the gates have every right to investigate that crime. When I said "latitude" that's what I meant. There are very few absolutes regarding law.

When Tiger checked into a hospital to be looked at the cops are then invited into the "case" should they decide there actually is one. If the investigation of that case includes the circumstances that brought about his mauling (the Escalade wreck), then that is fair game to the cops.

The issue is in my opinion that is what we're dealing with actually a crime since it involved 2 married adults and neither want to press charges ? I can't imagine the FHP spending one ounce of resources worrying about this. It's a family problem now.
