Thread of What You've Eaten, Cooked and/or Drunk Lately

Again, I rarely stump for any particular restaurant, especially a fast casual spot.
However, I'm making an exception on this one. This past weekend I was at a kids birthday party hosted by some family friends and they catered in BonChon - Korean Style fried chicken wings.

I've had wings all over the US. I bought an $800 smoker so I could make my own and I think mine are pretty damn good.
However, I've never had anything like BonChon. Quite simply the best fried wings I've ever had. Crunch you can hear from across the room and a heat that isn't overpowering, but stays with you 2-3 minutes after you finish the wing.

I can't wait to go back.

Don't know if this qualifies on 'cooked', but certainly does as eaten....wifey and I shared a dungeness (sp?) crab for Valentines Day supper. (did take her out for lunch, but do hate the VD crowds for dinner (lunch was less costly but just as good). Anyway, along with grilled asparagus and some fresh sourdough bread (and melted butter), we sat down and got messy. Cleaning out the 'knuckle' of the crab is tedious, but oh so good, lumped on the sourdough, slathering the melted butter, and eating it (hands of course) as 'open faced'. Then, separating the legs from their large pieces of crab, and delicately dipping them in said butter, is also grand. Don't know if y'all get dungeness back east, but to me, enjoy it better than lobster. PS, paired with a crisp chardonnay, non-oaked, and plenty of napkins.

I never had the patience for crab, seems like a lot of work for such little meat, then the mess as you said. I prefer a nice porterhouse steak.

Absolutely one of my favorite meals when I’m in the bay. Another one is in San Carlos… Rustic Oyster House. I think they have a couple of locations. Grilled and raw oysters. I generally can easily go over my per diem for SF on oysters and beers there.

Where did you go for the crab?

Sparc the local Save Mart.....even we folk in San Joaquin Valley get somewhat fresh seafood. SM specializes in it. Do agree with the 'too much labor' part, but hey, if it costs me more calories than I consume (doubtful), then that's a win-win. PS, went to a steakhouse, they had a dungeness as an appetizer, spent the entire evening working it over, and had only two bites of my filet, which was one of the best grilled ever. Ah well, to each his own. Been known to go over per diem for fresh seafood, as well as in a good sushi house.....

I am arachniphobic enough that sea spider isn't on my menu. That said, I'm told it's delicious. Just not for me.

I’m just lazy. Too much labor per half ounce of meat yielded.

Also, sea spiders aren’t cows. Cows are fucking delicious.

What the fuck is wrong with you scooter(s)?

If I had grill talents like AKAK, wouldn't bother. Uh, not true. Too many years in San Francisco, enjoying the fresh seafood at Scomas, among other venues. Down here, we grill alot of tri-tip. Wife works it over, bags it with some marinade, including Pappy's seasoning, and plops it in refrig for a night prior to grilling. Always start grilling with the fat cap down, and after flipping, use both an instant thermometer, as well as a thump 'plump test' to determine level of doneness. Always some rare for wife, and medium well pieces for me.....
