The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

How is it that these people can tag zombie after zombie in the head with handguns, while on the run, yet they can't hit a damn thing with high powered rifles from supported positions?

My question as well. Every rifle except for the ninja chick's AK had an add-on sight. WTF?

1) I think the girl was the one that stands on the guardtower that Andrea asked where the governor is...she came in a van later and was clearly covering up where the governor and the Mexican dude were.

2) It wasn't a couple walkers...there were quite a few packed in that van . And while getting attacked with assault rifles while being spread out, that adds another element of complexity. Now the fact that somehow this is supposed to be a "cliffhanger" (words of my friends) is absurd...there are maybe 50 walkers between Rick, Darryl, and Merle and the rest of the group. You can take care of that quick. I think that was a smart plan except for the fact that they just rolled out after that...they knew the zombies wouldn't kill them but if they used the walkers to get them out of their fortifications to then shoot them, that would have been a brilliant plan. Instead, governor justs fires his assault rifle in the air fully exposed, laughs, and leaves.

3) I get that they are trying to make the governor look maniacal but they have already established that with the dead daughter, heads in his room, interrogation tactics, killing servicemen for supplies, etc. Standing out in the open in the middle of the gunfight while shooting a machine gun in the air is flat out retarded and completely unbelievable. Also, they can't somehow hit shit with scoped-out assult rifles all of the sudden? Psh.

4) Don't give a shit about Glen and Maggie now. Somehow we are supposed to see that sexual abuse is a whole new can of worms than perpetually being zombie fodder in that the zombie don't molest you, they just try to literally eat you with no sexual tension...ok, I guess I can accept that. What I can't accept is her being pissed at Glen over this and him somehow being angry at her at first, and then subsequently risking everyone's lives by leaving on his own. I think this is all perhaps to solidify the fact that Rick must be the leader and if he goes batshit crazy for a spell, the group is doomed.

5) The Darryl/Merle element is still intriguing. Very interested to see what happens there.

6) I still really like Hershel's character. He has assumed Dale's "voice of reason and morality" but he is actually reasonable and not some delusional nihilist. He is bringing up some pretty good points and trying to keep the group together and safe. With that said, I just like his character...in terms of progression, there is nowhere to go from here. Not sure what other dynamic he is going to provide really other than being a liability with one leg. I could see him being killed off soon.

7) I am still digging this season, although there is just too much going on...it's like an incomplete thought. T-Dog gets almost zero character development and once he starts to, DEAD. A group shows up to the prison offering to help and Rick yells + scares them off. Give the background to a prisoner you've done nothing with, boom DEAD. Attack the prison, drop off zombies, leave. There just isn't much to really follow and unless they start connecting some things, there was a bunch of wasted time. However, I do think there is going to be some serious resolution.

8) Random but what happened to the black guy and his kid from the very first episode? I figured one of them would have popped up by now, dead or alive.

I agree with all the rest of your points but the thing about the walkers being in between them isn't so much that there is a small group of walkers in between them, but the fact that Rick, Daryl and Meryl are outside the fence in an area where a massive amount of noise was just made and with a very limited ammo supply as I recall (just Daryl has the crossbow? the others were going at it by hand). More walkers attracted by the ruckus could be converging on the position, a position with severely weakened defenses now that there are fences down. They will have to QUICKLY deal with the walkers in there way of getting back into the prison and even if the group does retreat back into the prison its gotten to a point where their exits could pretty much be surrounded.

Plus looking back on it, they busted the shit out of that front gate with the truck, so...presumably they can all start wandering in, at least part way.

Not from what I could tell. There was almost zero intrigue to this episode...I realize they were trying to advance the storylines and set up the next couple of shows but they might as well have just posted the script online so everyone could catch up and skip all the non-acting.

Side note: I couldn't help but keep thinking that Beth is quite the looker and started to feel a little guilty since they have never said what her age is supposed to be on the show. I did my homework though and found out she is 27 (I thought she couldn't be a day older than 18), so thankfully I wasn't perving out.

I think she's supposed to be playing somebody much younger than that. they said the age at one point and I remember being surprised.

luckily I was watching it DVRed so I just fast forwarded past the terrible country song.

Absolutley NOTHING happened this episode...biggest waste of an hour of TV since...well, pick any of the 6 hours of the Oscars telecast. One hour of Change-the-Channel blondie trying to convince the people in the prison "just because I am fucking his brains out doesn't mean I don't care about you too! Waaaahhhhhh". Only development that was mildly setting something up was the new 4 headed to Woodbury...and that took all of 15 seconds. Awful.

Morgan & Duane.

If the t.v. show takes a similar arc as the comic, Rick should be reuniting with them real soon.
