Well it went like the spoilers said. I was surprised how fast the hour seemingly went, given it was really only one central event. I give them credit for keeping it quiet as long as they did, and for incorporating the other death scenes they filmed into the story.
I do think they might have an issue in one aspect. If they really thought this would make everyone hate Negin, I think they miscalculated. The actor is almost too good, he exudes so much charisma that he might have people rooting for him instead of Rick et al. I guess we'll see how it is going forward, but he could end up being one of the fascinating anti-heroes of modern film.
Some funny memes out there...one is JDM holding a big hock of celery "Hi, I'm Vegan"
It's an entirely different story now, and a lot of the people who claim not to like it for the violence really just didn't like who died. Most of the complaining I see is from soccer moms who hate who the second death happened in front of. But with the Hilltop, the Kingdom, and the Whisperers on the horizon, this is a whole new show now. People may not like this narrative as much, but it has to evolve or else it will die. Look, I thought ER jumped the shark when they started dropping originals too, but if they hadn't, it would have gone 6 or 7 seasons instead of 15. The writers can easily fuck this all up, of course, but shifting directions is not the cause of that.I keep seeing that people are saying it was so violent last night because they have run out of a storyline. To me that is absurd. First, I am not even sure that was the most violent thing on the show (close though)...seeing zombies eat off people's faces is awfully rough. Second, they simply followed Glenn's death per the comic in how violent it was. Third, how are you going to get across the true brutality of Negan without showing some of the beating.
Finally, I do think this storyline is much different now. Rick Grimes, although he has been in some stick spots, has never been truly broken down with an enemy. He fought the Governor tooth and nail never showing any real weakness. He got trapped at Terminus only to say "they messed with the wrong people" and then slaughtered them in a church. The Wolves were dealt with pretty quickly and murdered off. Rick bit the throat out of a biker and killed their group on the spot. Even with the groups of Negan he was killing off, no threat. He seemed invincible and really I never felt the group was truly threatened. For the first time, Rick and his followers seem absolutely screwed now and you know this won't be over soon, and there will be many more deaths. Negan is asserting true dominance over Rick. And honestly, someone major like Glenn needed to die to move the story along. I think the show just got a hell of a lot more interesting and is off to a great start after what I thought was a much improved Season 6.

and, I mean, we had a baby cut out of a mother, followed by her son capping her. But yeah, a ball bat was too muchPeople actually get upset about the violence in this show? What the fuck....if there is a real chance you are going to be bothered by what's in this show, why on earth would you ever watch it?
