The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...ive-last-nights-terrible-finale/#2458c6e94222

"It’s been a while since I felt really, truly afraid in The Walking Dead. I’ve been worried, sure. Worried about if Glenn was dead. Worried that the heroes would get eaten by cannibals. Worried that a character I like would meet Negan’s bat. But scared? Not really."

"Season 6 was one big build up to Negan, and ultimately we were all let down. That’s where following the comics gets us. Nowhere fast." (I think it got us nowhere SLOW!)

Which brings me to my biggest gripe.
The show is too SLOW too often.
For me it's better to watch the show after it's been recorded so at least I can zip through the commercials and stay awake.

I get being a little annoyed that you have to wait until October to find out who they killed.....but TV shows do this all the time. Why is this specific case the worst thing that has ever happened in the history of entertainment?

I think it's because the showrunners have abused it as a cliché device to drum up suspense. Especially this season.

And, in this situation, it was totally unnecessary. If you assume the show had done a good enough job building up the Saviors and Negan (debatable at this point), then viewers should already be vested in what next season has to offer without some cheap cliffhanger.

Plus, it's bound to get out eventually before it has a chance to be revealed on the show. So it'll be really anti-climactic by the start of season 7.

Honestly, I'm of the viewpoint that the show can kill anybody. No one is essential to the show. The plot of survival drives itself. So there was no wrong person to kill last night... there could only be poor execution. And that it was.

Seemed obvious it's not Carl or Rick since Negan said if anyone screams "cut out the boys other eye and feed it to his daddy."

People are already posting slowed down audio and breaking down the screams. The best I've read is that Maggie can be heard screaming the loudest and Glenn's supposed last words. Which would obviously follow the comic story and propel Maggie into a new bad ass single mom zombie killing machine leader.

Completely agree. Cliffhangers, like any other device, are fine if used properly. But in this show, they are cheapened to the point of being infuriating. It is made worse by the fact that not only did they troll the audience with Glen's death earlier, but it took them like 4 episodes to reveal what happened. OK, fine, whatever. But now to do it again? In the same season? With the same potential character? And leave it for 8 months? I wouldn't be at all surprised now if they made the Season 7 opener entirely about Morgan and Carol and didn't reveal it then either, just to troll the audience further. But as you say, it won't matter, because as soon as filming starts, it will leak. It may even leak before that.

I agree with the first part of the above, which I don't think is a spoiler, it wasn't Coral or Rick. The dialogue established that. Also, if I recall correctly, also not a spoiler, I think I remember Negan being towards the middle of the row and looking over to his right at the camera when he was saying "you...are..." which means anyone to Rick's left (Coral, I think Sasha and Maggie, I forget the rest) were also not "it". That would leave the people to Rick's right...Darryl, Abraham, Glen...not sure who else, would have to watch the scene again.

Also, and this is just a random thought, I don’t know why I thought this, but this is what I thought was going to happen when Negan said “I just can’t choose”. Instead of eenie meenie, I thought he was going to turn around and tell Rick he had to choose, with the conditions that a) he couldn’t pick himself, and b) if he didn’t pick, then it was going to be Coral. That would have been some cold-blooded shit, and would have tied back in to how “lucky” he really thought they were to have Eugene there, especially after he got rag-dolled in the RV so fast. Of course in that case there’s no way he would have picked original members of the group (Glen, Darryl) or his girl or the pregnant girl, so it would have been a swerve with a character (like Abraham or Rosita or Sasha) that no one was expecting, or Eugene.

That would have been an excellent divergence from the comic book. And far too smart of an idea for the writers of the show, apparently.

Also, and maybe this is just me, and it's minor, but did anyone else think the whole "pissing pants time" thing was...I don't know, beneath Negan? I mean I've only seen the guy for 4 minutes, but I thought the rest of his speech struck all the right cords, it was cold bloodedly matter of fact, with a dash of maniacal and black humor and plenty of arrogance and dramatic build. Actor did a very nice job. But that part just seemed...something sophomoric and more likely to be coming from that douchebag Dwight.

Thought the same thing about making Rick pick.

Oh, and if anyone follows wrestling at all, for some reason AJ Styles' music started playing in my head when the guy knocked on that RV door to bring out Negan
Oh shit.....I can't believe I forgot this because it hit me IMMEDIATELY when he started talking at the beginning of the show. "That guy" is Trevor.

So not to keep hijacking this thread today, but lost in the Negasm last night was the continuing Carol/Morgan deal, and the discovery of a new group? What did people think of that? I’ll give them some credit for the double-turn they have worked to an extent…Carol is right some, Morgan is right some, Carol’s killing caught up to her, Morgan realized he would still kill to save his own if it came down to it…reminds me of Crimson Tide, where Hackman and Denzel both had moments of clarity in between thinking they were morally and ethically correct. So, they’ve done better with this angle than I thought they would. Who are the newbies? I know the one guy was the guy looking for his horse, are these the “library people” that the poor schlock was referencing before he got hung? And had we ever seen him before? He didn’t look familiar…
