The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

That's gotta be the worst finale they've ever had (mid-season or season ending).

No one of significance died, and nothing was resolved. It was a supposed finale and we didn't even get the full cast. We had an asshole reading a history book and a dorky kid who has lost his mind. That was 50% of the episode. Yes, Deanna died, but in the grand scheme that was wasted because there was no consequence to it. She had already ceded her power to Rick. It was clear she was clueless as to how to survive. There was no eureka moment with her sociopath son. Nothing. Maggie escaped 100 walkers by herself...a week or two after 2 of them almost killed her and another person in the sewer. It's like none of it is consistent anymore. Add in the fact that the Morgan/Carol thing was not only wasted in the midst of a horde attack, but came to no resolution. They will both wake up and blame each other for ugly fuck teeth escaping. La de da.

I will say a lot of the camera work and cinematography was good, and the pacing wasn't bad. The material was just scuzz-rocket. If that was supposed to have people gritting their teeth for 2 months, that was a serious overestimation. I may reflect on this episode and hate it not as much...but I will hate it.

They tried to leave the whole thing open-ended and like a cliff hanger, which ultimately was a waste. With the little bitch ass kid yelling for his mom while they are all in a swarm of walkers, it's clear someone's going to get killed off in the 2nd half opener. Really, they needed to have about another 30 minutes to tie up a few of those plot lines and introduce Negan as was done in the 2nd half preview. At least Deanna went out like a boss.

Basically introducing The Saviors. But not Negan

Not intended just for you, WM, but my question is, how is this going to be any different from the Governor of Woodbury thing? It's Groundhog Day. The same show/different season thing is why I gave up on Breaking Bad. Is there some material difference in the comic books? No, I'm not going to read them to find out.

I guess to your point there's a lot of repetition in the comics in regards to fighting with other groups of survivors. So yes, there is a wash/rinse/repeat air about it. I think the Negan character is what people are excited about though because he makes The Governor look like kitty cat. That's why there is a lot of excitement about his story.

OK, so I guess this at least shows why Sasha, Abraham, and Darryl weren’t paid to be in, er, didn’t make it back to Alexandria for the finale. Some random thoughts after digesting the episode and reading many reviews (not really spoilers):

-I have seen no one, either a reviewer or subsequent commenter, that liked last night’s episode. Not one single one. There were varying degrees of “that sucked”, but no “no it didn’t”. Mostly due to some of the ridiculousness of what happened (multiple characters forgetting how to walk, Carol deciding to have the battle with Morgan in the middle of a zombie horde, Tara and hot Latina sliding their guns to Ugly Fuck Teeth, when they both can hit walkers in the head from about 10x the distance with regularity, and then UFT not killing them all…)

-Every child on this show has been someone the audience ended up hating. Be they whiny or sociopathic, no one liked Koral, or the scare pair, or either one of Blondie McStylist’s. Only Judith has escaped it, really. Just a strange variant.

-Also surprised about the amound of Rick vitriol out there. Many people seem to want him killed off and someone else to take over. Rick ain’t perfect, but without him, there ain’t a show, in my IMO.

-I think the whole seemingly 45 minute exchange between Michonne and Dianna was meant to set up Michonne with an eventual love interest (and why not, everyone else is passing each other around). I still say it will be the dude she was arguing with when they were out with Glenn (before the dumpster), but…and it may sound crazy, but don’t rule out Rick. Because she knows Rick the best, and…

-Many seem to think that they will reproduce one of the iconic, if not the iconic, moments from what little I know of the comics coming back from break, with some variants in the characters. It is more or less perfectly set up for it, it could happen in the first 5 minutes. Of course, that’s probably the writers trolling everyone, so nothing of the sort will probably happen. However, I think it either will, or blondie is in it for the entire season and beyond as his love interest. I guess we’ll see. But I can’t see it playing out that way.

-Speaking of which, does anyone think Judith doesn’t make it to the end of the season? Would they actually kill a small child like that on TV? Probably not graphically, it would be implied (I wouldn’t want to watch that). But I just get the sense that this whole walking to the armory thing might have some dire consequences, and she’s in the most vulnerable position (see above).

-The whole Maggie and Glenn thing was just too…perfect. I think it’s possible that one (likely Maggie) has something bad happen to them coming out of the break. Of course I think everyone knows what supposedly happens to Glenn…which is why I doubt it will. The act might happen, and in the same manner, but I would be less than surprised if it happened to a different character.

-Finally, about Negan…yeah, we can all hope they learned their lessons with the Governor and Gareth…but expectations for him are sky high, which means the disappointment could be monumental. We’ll see. This could be the foil that the Ricktator needs.

In the comic, Judith actually got killed at the same time as Lori. The Governor blew Lori away and she subsequently fell on Judith, which killed her. But I agree, I would hate to see he killed on the show. Nobody wants to see that, unless you're some sick fuck.
