The Smurficial Boise State Broncos Thread

Riiiiiight. So replacing a daunting conference schedule that included the likes of:
Wyoming
Idaho
Nevada
La Tech
San Jose St
Hawaii

with...

New Mexico
Tulsa
UNLV
Colorado St
San Diego St

makes them some world beaters too. I'll give them credit for winning their big games because they've done a hell of a job at that. Give any team in the country a shot at one big game to start the season followed by eleven cupcakes and 5-6 weeks to play a bowl game and we'd have 25 conferences all afraid to play a full schedule of decent competition. It's the opposite approach every major conference takes so until they get in a major conference and go unscathed for a whole decade then come talk smack.

No quite frankly they couldn't.

Georgia will be lucky to finish above .500. Oregon has lost to every half way decent team they've played. Oregon St finished 5-7.

BSU in the B1G would be Northwestern level at best.

1, I seem to recall Northwestern winning the Big 10. It could be done.
2. They beat an Oregon team that won the Pac 10, a team that took the Buckeyes to the final minutes of the game.

Boise State and TCU have more talent, are better coached than BP -- myself included-- are willing to give them credit for.

Sure and given a season where BSU didn't play the top team in a year where the conference is done they too might squeak out a 3 way tie as conference champ once in a decade.

An Oregon team that won the Pac 10 in a very down year and which was lucky to be in a game against an Ohio State team which absolutely dominated them on the field.

I'm willing to give them just as much credit as they deserve.

What I'm not willing to do is pretend that running a garbage schedule coupled with a couple of close wins over decent teams spread out over several years makes a program anything more than it is.

Let's pretend boyzee plays a B1G schedule:
Northwestern
Minnesota
Iowa
U of M
MSU
Nebraska

add in two from the other division

Purdue
Wisconsin

And they're going 8-1 or undefeated?

*how about they play a Leaders division schedule:
Penn St
Indiana
Purdue
Wisconsin
tOSU
Illinois

Two from the other div...

Iowa
MSU

Like I said before, they'd be LUCKY to finish 4-4. There are no five weeks for prep before playing a tOSU, Penn St, Illinois, Wisconsin month of October.

Boise State gets NCAA probation, scholarship cuts for violations

The only part anyone cares about:

Under the sanctions, Boise State's football program will be able to offer nine fewer scholarships through the 2013-14 season. That's six fewer than Boise State's self-imposed sanctions announced earlier this year.
The football team will also be allowed fewer contact practices during spring training for three years.

They call it a loss of 9 schollies, but it's really only awarding 3 less schollies for 1 year, and having to wait until after year 3 to pick them back up.

Boise State will be at 82, rather than 85 schollies, for the next 3 academic years.

Highlights include:

- A 4-year 'show cause' being levied on the women's tennis coach (he knowingly cheated, gave over $1000 cash to a player a couple of times, played a woman that wasn't a student in an NCAA event, and then wasn't initially wasn't truthful to the NCAA. He's no longer the coach there.

- Also a 2-year 'show cause' for an assistant track coach, who is also a former coach.

- And the dreaded 'Lack if Institutional Control' for the athletic department overall.

Other than women's tennis, which was blatant cheating, most of the stuff in track and football involved putting kids up with other students before they were enrolled. But the NCAA found that serious, since being able to practice with future teammates ahead of time gives a competitive advantage.

In sample A I see them losing to Nebraska. In sample B I see them losing to Wisconsin if the game is in Madison.

My God, the Buckeyes trailed TOLEDO most of the game and the rockets were only 5 down with first and ten on the OSU 25 with a 1:45 to go. This is a very weak year for the Big 10.

Go back and read what your fellow BPers have to say about Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State even Wisconsin. Follow that up with a re-run of the Toledo game.

Yeah, Boise State plays in a crappy conference, but right now the B1G isn't exactly setting the world on fire. Let's see what happens when they play Toledo.

:shake:

It's not about playing each fucking team in a vacuum. It's that Boise would have to play a fucking conference schedule. It's a fucking grind. They wouldn't have a fucking winning record in the ACC.

Boise State doesn't come in and handle the B1G. No way. I can't buy it. The same way San Diego State doesn't walk out of the ACC and make it to the big dance in basketball. They aren't more talented athletically. They are driven, prepare well, and have a mystique about them. You play a B1G conference schedule and you lose that ability to plan as well. You also lose your mystique. Because, instead of playing not to lose teams will be playing to win against you. And over time that drive fades and you're Northwestern, only with half the IQ.
