The Smurficial Boise State Broncos Thread

Once Chris Peterson leaves(for ND,OSU,Texas) Boise will become irrelevant, again.

That's something I could agree to. But in the past decade they've proven to me that they're deeper than given credit for.

What astounds me are the posters here who cite the vast shortcomings of Michigan, Sparty, Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa, Illinois -- and let's not even go to Minnie, Purdue, and Indiana-- and then turn around and claim that a Big 10 schedule is such a grind. You can't have it both ways. Either those programs are excellent and it takes talent, coaching and depth to beat them, or they're mediocre and thus programs like Boise State and TCU can play with them.

I don't know, maybe BSU's academic requirements allow Peterson to recruit kids the Pac 10/Big 10 can't touch. Maybe, by attracting kids who aren't looking for a quick ticket to the NFL, he has the time to develop lesser players.

Whatever it is, IMO BSU would be competitive in the Big 10.
Do I want them in the Big 10? Hell no.

Would they go undefeated? I've seen GREAT Buckeye teams fail to achieve that.

Could they win a Big 10 title? Northwestern has won or tied for the championship something like five times in the last 20 seasons, so yes.

Given how badly Dan Hawkins tenure went at Colorado, I doubt Petersen ever leaves for a big time program without a jump in between.

Peterson won't be able to resist the lure and money of a big time program.
No intermediate step for him. He's as good as Kelly(ND) right now!

I must be crazy, because I am reading these posts as suggesting that Colorado is a big time program... :tongue2:

PSU is barely competitive most years. They were A JUGGERNAUT before joining. BSU is nowhere near a PSU currently. Seriously.

I think NW's title runs were less than that. Try one outright and two shared in twenty years. At least two of those coming in years they were able to duck tOSU. Their last one before that was 19-fucking-36.

Not Really. In the six years before joining the Big 10, they were average. I would not call 9-3 a juggernaut.

1987 8-4
1988 5-6
1989 8-3-1
1990 9-3
1991 11-2
1992 7-5

Their best years were before 1987

1968 11-0
1969 11-0
1973 12-0
1977 11-1
1978 11-1
1979 8-4
1980 10-2
1981 10-2
1982 11-1
1983 8-4-1
1984 6-5
1985 11-1
1986 12-0

It's not about playing each fucking team in a vacuum. It's that Boise would have to play a fucking conference schedule. It's a fucking grind.

Stop making insightful posts. It creeps me out when you do that.

PSU winning percentage in the 17 years prior to joining the Big Ten: .755%

Overall after joining: .694%

Conference: .625%

Those teams are far from perfect. So what?

You are still ignoring the fact that they are an order of magnitude more difficult to play week after week than what BSU faces.

Georgia might finish around .500 this year...and they're arguably the best team BSU will play.

Well, they went undefeated and fucking curb stomped tOSU shortly after joining, so overall, they were far superior to Boise, in my imo

Wow, did I say BSU would enter the Big 10 and kick ass year in and year out? I think you're ignoring how 'down' the Big 10 is this year.

How much tougher would it be if BSU had to play Georgia and then play Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue... something on the order of magnitude of say, Akron, Toledo, U Miami, Colorado... ? If they get their hat handed to them by Toledo this weekend, I'll gladly amend my statements, but if they blow the rockets out of the stadium I'll stick by my words.

Oh, and as for BSU having 5 weeks to get ready for a big game.... seems to me that Oregon, Oklahoma and Georgia has time to get ready for the game too. The saw cuts in both directions.
