The gods are already in control at the voting booth(millionaires only qualifying for office) so we have to take our government back and set a course in the best interest of most of the people. That is something I hear even from conservatives. That is at the very core of social progress right now. Billions of dollars being wasted on jets that can't go out in a thunder storm while the veterans can't even see a doctor. The richest country in the world with millions unable to afford health insurance. Children not getting first class food for lunch in schools.(kids get class 2 food for lunch) There's a whole lot rotten in our democracy that needs cleaned out right now. Social Security is not an "entitlement". People have been long term jobless for years now because of politics. Even Vets get their Food Stamps taken away. We allow children to be murdered in mass in their school rooms because of the Second Amendment? Where the hell is the common sense people? The humanity? When business(profit motive) can't or won't help people in need then it falls on the government to make changes.

The richest country in the world with millions unable to afford health insurance.
How much my neighbor earns has no impact on my ability to pay a bill. Over-regulation of the healthcare industry does.

Children not getting first class food for lunch in schools.(kids get class 2 food for lunch) Let's start with the fact that it is the responsibility of the parents to feed their children, the expectation of which would eliminate much unnecessary government cost. Where the parents are not meeting their responsibility not through neglect (which is a separate issue) but hardship, there are private charities that provide assistance, and would be more if the government stepped out of it. As a community member, you could help to negotiate good bulk food prices with local farmers so excellent food is available to the schools - but only if the government lets you. And finally, why is the FEDERAL government involved in educating or feeding people at all? Is not the state, being closer to the people, the better place to respond to things that do not involve national defense or interstate commerce (without the silly-putty definition we've given it)? Why should Texas have to have the setup Massachusetts wants - or vice versa?

Social Security is not an "entitlement"
Insomuch as you put money into the system, that is correct. Beyond that, by what moral right does one forcibly take and spend someone else's money? And if your response is that other's gains were ill-gotten, would that not make the proper way to resolve that be through criminal law, not the tax system?

People have been long term jobless for years now because of politics.
Agree. Government may not create jobs (government employees are overhead), but it is certainly good at stifling their creation. Perhaps deregulation of small business would cause a boom as people realize they can start a business without a fleet of lawyers, and maybe, just maybe, even hire people for things other than appeasing the tax man and policy enforcers.

Even Vets get their Food Stamps taken away.
Personal responsibility (yes, even for vets, who better?) comes first, private charity comes second. Again, even if you want a government safety net, why give the federal government that power, rather than the state?

We allow children to be murdered in mass in their school rooms because of the Second Amendment?
Do you mean through ignoring the Second Amendment by creating gun-free zones?

And finally, is it not better to have a strong people with a weak government, than a strong government and a weak people?

Stephen A. Smith works with Skip Bayless, so, you know, guilt by association.
Watch enough of the interplay between Bayless and Stephen A, and you'll arrive at an entirely different conclusion from those reached by the authors of The Bell Curve.

If Bayless took remedial coursework, there's a chance that one day he'd qualify for classification as a halfwit.

At our store I'd say that a good 70-80% of our customers pay with EBT. I've said before that I really don't have a problem with food stamps. What saddens me and even sickens me a bit is looking at a lot of these people and knowing that they're unemployable, they'll never be able toget a job, at least in their current mindset, it has become their way of life. And they're fine with it.

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have."
WE are supposed to be the government. WE own it, good and bad. WE have abdicated our responsibility to be involved.
WE got the government WE deserve for not taking part.
WE got lazy, complacent in belief that our one vote didn't make a difference. Our voice didn't make a difference.
I guess this was the start of the Tea Party. Good idea, bad execution. Things got worse. Things will get even worse, still.
How do we stop the downward spiral?
Do we even care?
We start by talking to each other with respect. But there are those on both sides who don't believe it's worth the trouble.
I believe it is.

Growing up in the Ohio Valley, I have seen this close up for generations. It crosses racial lines. No work ethic.
What went wrong? One thing is it didn't get policed from the beginning. You can't run any program without spending time or enough money policing it.
Whether your running a Koolaid stand or a Veterans Administration, you have to put time and money in policing it.

Are we talking about forcing people again? If people are lazy of their own free will that's fine, I'm not going to force someone to make something of him or herself
