More Hispanic leaders like Susana Martinez and John Sanchez (Taos' governor and lt. governor respectively) in political power would be welcomed!
Gov. Martinez is not the "GOP Savior" that some are thinking. She has problems with her own party in NM(she has a political guru ,Jay McCleskey who is running a scorched earth style that has pissed off many)(Martinez, herself, is well none for temper and vengeful personality.) as well as being at odds with a large portion of the Hispanic community and Catholic church for her position against giving illegal immigrants a drivers license. And every New Mexican knows it was the Texas Republicans(Bush and Rove) who financed her run and to whom she owes much. That doesn't sit well with many New Mexicans(Susanna the Tejana/Texan) She portrays herself as a "moderate" which may not sit well nationally.

Most Hispanics are conservatives at heart but unfortunately their media spreads Marxist propaganda and scares them into believing there's a white boogieman behind every tree looking to oppress them. Some of them are brainwashed to the point that if a Hispanic (illegal one) loses his job due to using forged documents or someone else's ssn# they think it's racist. The local Hispanic media also frequently sets up the local police into pulling them over or harassing them and then edits the video to make it appear that they're only crime is "driving while brown". They fall for it every time because, I suppose, it's only human nature to want to believe that when you're in the wrong it's really not your fault but rather some oppressors.

You may not believe this but there is a world of difference between how Hispanics are treated in Arizona and how they are treated in New Mexico. A lot left Arizona for NM when Brewer became Governor.

I think it had more to do with SB 1070 and Joe Arpaio. There was a mass exodus of illegals when it passed. I blame much on the sensationalism in the media. Local news gets the white bread community worked up about the drug wars and what's going on in Mexico turning many prejudice against the Hispanics while the Spanish media like Univision and Telemundo News tends to exaggerate the racism in white bread Arizona. It's like they're pitting one side against the other. While i do have great sympathy for the hardships of those who are here illegally and hope for a solution blanket amnesty isn't the answer. I mean if I have to show my passport and pass through customs when I reenter the country, everyone should have to. Could you imagine if my plane landed at the international terminal at Sky Harbor and I tried to bypass customs? Another problem is that when you have a welfare state like we have here in this country if you opened the borders and let everyone in you'd have to take care of them and we would be even more broke than we already are. the only solution is to end welfare and public assistance, only then could you open the borders to everyone.

A lot of stuff about immigrants and a "welfare" state gets talked about. I know white families in the Ohio Valley that have been welfare families for decades. But that's probably for discussion elsewhere.

You're seeing this how you want to see this. Of course illegals receive few if any benefits, they're illegal. However, if everyone was welcome to jump over the border, granted amnesty, there wouldn't be enough jobs to support everyone. The economy is like an eco system, there's a delicate balance. You can't have more people than your economy can support. We'd go broke trying to take care of everyone.

Taos we can't employ the actual citizens of this country right now - so you can't honestly expect 20 million or more to just show up and be able to get jobs. It's illogical and not based in any sort of reality in an economic sense.

Immigrants probably won't take jobs away from citizens because immigrants do a lot of the dirty work in this country. Jobs that citizens don't want to do like work in fields picking crops by hand. They help keep the price of food on your table down. That makes economic common sense. Also, I would argue that we could employ most of our citizens if we were so inclined. Putting Americans back to work doesn't seem to be a priority right now.
So, my point of view is different than yours. I believe we could have near full employment if we wanted that. And our priorities are screwed up right now for various reasons. I believe the American Dream is still alive for all those willing to get their hands dirty.

so the new immigrants will be stealing the already filled jobs by the previous 7-20 million immigrants. There isn't a magical endless supply of jobs Taos.

Based on what besides emotion? Subsidizing poverty does not prove the system can support them all whatsoever. It just proves that there is an interest in supporting them without a job.

The school, healthcare and utilities in this country are already struggling mightily to support the existing system, so why not add tens of millions more with open borders.

Uh huh, sure thing Taos.

So you are a proponent then of the ability of businesses to hire cheap, illegal, and unprotected labor...funny, that is a position shared by many hardcore conservative capitalists.

So, the more people we allow illegally into the country, the lower unemployment will go...gotcha. :roll1:
