A remarkable 16 year old! A remarkable family.
The majority are indeed white but their culture is so different than other groups considered to be "white" here in this country that they don't see themselves as white. Where I work we have probably 20-30 Hispanic/Mexican nationals, if I took a group photo of everybody and asked you to pick out all of the Hispanics just by looking at them I guarantee that you wouldn't be able to do so.Hispanics don't think of themselves as "white". That's the point of the ethnic majority change that will happen. There is much diversity even in the Hispanic community though. I see the whole variety every day. A result of how much of the world Spain colonized no doubt.

English/German-Largely ProtestantsI'm not saying what will happen... because I'm not nostradamus...
But, keep in mind that (and I think I alluded to this earlier in this thread or another) that "white" in America was at one point "anglo saxon" which I guess you can define how you want, but, lets go with English and German (and this is in a lot of ways pre-dating "Germany" proper, so, obviously its a broad characterization) for the sake of easy argument.
Now... at some point this didn't include Irish. (need not apply)
Did not include Italians, and more broadly Catholics, which spurred a lot of discussion about whether they could be good Americans while in service of the Pope.
Didn't include Poles, Russians, Serbs, Croats, Hungarians, Ukranians, Czech, Slovaks, and on and on...
As mentioned before, our Fried Tal (of the Check your priviledge story) is Jewish...
So, while I acknowledge the diversity of the Hispanic community, its certainly not a stretch for people of Spanish, largely European heritage (at least in many cases) to have a similar cultural transition as the groups above. Hispanic in and of itself, not being a race, so, but, if you want to talk about "ethnic" majorities, how do you characterize the non-hispanic white people in this country? There's probably not an "ethnic" majority now. Its ridiculous to argue that "all the other white people" are somehow homogenized into a common cultural/national/ancstral background...

Hispanics, Irish, Italians-Largely Catholic
This is correct, I see a lot of it.Well, I mean, you have French Heugonots kind of distinct for a period of time too, it goes on and on, and certainly you have communities that self identify with thier heritages to a different degree still. I don't know that you'd classify them as something other than "white" or as importantly different than Anglo Saxon to the degree that you'd call it an important ethnic shift in the long term for american culture.
There's an interesting (ok, maybe not all that interesting, but to some, not necessarily me) move among Hispanics in the US (and maybe other places too, I don't really know) away from Catholicism to christian fundamentalist (apologies for the blanket characterization, if that is one) churches.

A part of me wants them to get into power, we need to instill some of their values back into our society (see abortion...etc...)Yes. I even see that locally. But, the majority are solid Catholic. I'm impressed by their solid families. We can't really predict with any certainty how future Hispanics will effect are culture. I get a strong feeling that they are united in their belief that immigrants from Mexico should be allowed to have the opportunity to make the American Dream their reality.
