All you need do is look at the headlines to see white people acting in a racist, ignorant manner.

I could change one word in this snippet of "dialogue" and turn it into a statement that might be equally valid/accurate, but which would get me accused of racism for using that word in that manner.

But then you go on to say:

That creates an image of someone uncaring of people of color and even women and gays.

so you're just letting the sensationalist media (the ones who write the headlines that create that image) fill your head with all these clichés and stereotypes about race and culture in America.

I highly recommend the following book for those who want to explore issues of privilege:

AHopeintheUnseen.jpg

It provides a good look at the obstacles an individual faces when working to escape the generational poverty cycle, including those who will want to hold others back and the isolation one feels from both the community they are leaving and the new one they enter. It also shows the paramount importance of having at least one person who supports your endeavors and helps you understand there is an alternative pathway. Although its been 13 years since I read this book, I remember being deeply moved by Cedric's story. And although his experiences as an inner-city kid from Wash D.C. with a father in prison could not be more different than my own, I remember being able to relate to him as a first-generation college student.

The entire population of Mexico is 123 million. The Unites State has 223 million Whites. So, yeah, Whites will never be the minority in this country...
Hawaii? Maybe not, but the us?

White people have slipped from 89 to 64% since 1965.

Beyond immigration, we're also about to lose a ton of baby boomers that are almost all white.

There's also the matter of the uncounted 10-20 million illegal immigrants living here to drive up hispanic numbers in the next fifty years.

Most Hispanics are white anyway, they just originate from a country in Europe that speak Spanish though they did mix more with the native americans as they did throughout most of central america, they're referred to as "mestizos".

Whites are the minority here, well behind Asians in number.

Hispanics still only account for 16% of the population. No way another 100-120 million more Hispanics show up.

Mestizos brews a really good lager...

Census and financial estimates have whites at 2 to 1 vs Hispanics among kids, and the minority in California behind Hispanics

To drive the point home about total population vs future population:

There are also more minority babies being born right now than white babies.

Any site that says that there are twice as many Hispanic kids as White kids in Cali is flawed. I've been to LA and even there White kids are still the majority...
Congrats on your trip. I'll stick with slightly larger sample sizes

http://censusviewer.com/county/CA/Los Angeles

47% Latino (up 10% in 10 years)
52% non Latino

My wife grew up in SoCal and wanted to know what neighborhood/ part of town we were talking about. She thought it was plausible but wasn't sure which minority was more prevalent.
