The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

Indiana at #10 is their highest AP poll ranking in over 50 years, they last reached #10 in 1969.

The only years they ever got higher than #10 are 1945 and 1967, they finished #4 in both those years.

YOUR MOVE, CFP. We're only two weeks away from the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season and there are still multiple Power Five teams that haven't played a single game yet and a substantial number that just started playing last week.

On top of that, we've got quite a few games that are looking like they'll be canceled this week and a few of them are already out of potential make-up weeks.

It's a mess, but there's an extremely easy fix.

I have no idea why the College Football Playoff hasn't done this already, to be honest. Maybe they just really trust their committee's ability to evaluate a team's playoff worthiness based on three games.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby says College Football Playoff delay being discussed

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told Sirius XM Radio on Thursday that there have been discussions about delaying the College Football Playoff and the New Year's Six bowls because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"I am on the CFP operations committee, and we spent some time talking about that," Bowlsby said. "We have not come to any closure on it, but there is some latitude to postpone it if that need should arise.

"The same is true with some of the New Year's Six games," he added. "I don't know if I see us playing a championship game in February, but you just never know. These are unusual times, and things that might not otherwise be acceptable have to be considered in this kind of circumstance."

CFP executive director Bill Hancock told ESPN there is a strong sentiment among the commissioners to play the games as scheduled, "knowing it won't be perfect," and that they plan to wait as long as they can to make a decision.

"Nothing is imminent," Hancock said. "They're talking about a lot of things, which is night and day different than they're going to do it."

Just sayin': Apparently it is being discussed.

This probably just means that they’ll try to postpone the playoff if Covid has screwed up the matchups they want.

Nerds are 4-0 ranked 20th, behind teams that are 4-2... lol
Does anyone really think Aggy is top5 ?

No, but they are in the SEC and that is the "SEC effect". Look at 1 loss Florida too, a 1 loss SEC team always has to be ranked above any other Power 5 conference team with only one loss and above any undefeated Gang Of 5 conference team......

Ranked No. 1 in the country once again, the Alabama Crimson Tide look like the buzz saw that has the capability to run through the college football world this season. But sitting at No. 2 and No. 3 are also undefeated national forces in Notre Dame and Ohio State. When asked who between those two is a tougher battle for Alabama, former Alabama star quarterback Greg McElroy said he believes the Buckeyes would put up a tougher test.

“I just think they have more pieces offensively you have to account for,” McElroy said of Ohio State on Tuesday’s edition of College Football Live. “I think Notre Dame’s excellent running the football, I think they’re decent at wide receiver and getting better, but Ohio State is a nightmare matchup for anybody, just because of how many different things you have to try to defend. The quarterback run, the individual matchup on the outside, being able to run the football between the tackles and on the perimeter. I would say Ohio State is the more difficult team to defend, therefore the more difficult matchup.”

OHIO STATE (3-0): CONTROLS ITS DESTINY

An unbeaten Ohio State isn’t getting left out of the playoff. A win over Indiana and whoever comes out of the Big Ten West will be enough for a program beating opponents by over three touchdowns a week.

The one caveat that comes with the above statement is if the Buckeyes lose any more games off their schedule. Right now, Ohio State can finish a maximum of 8-0. If that number drops further, Ohio State’s lack of data points – a term Ohio State fans are rather familiar with from 2014 – might start working against them.

ESPN FPI gives Ohio State a 61.7 percent chance to reach the playoff.

ALABAMA (6-0): CONTROLS ITS DESTINY
Boosted by wins over Georgia and Texas A&M, both of which would be top 12 teams if the playoff rankings were released today, and a schedule that includes at least two more Top 25 opponents, the Crimson Tide are a lock if they run the table.

Perhaps the more interesting question is if Alabama can afford a loss. The short answer is yes. If the Crimson Tide were to stumble in the regular season and win the SEC title, they’ll get in. If Alabama loses to Florida in the SEC championship game in somewhat respectable fashion – 14 or fewer points – it’ll most likely make the playoff.

OKLAHOMA STATE (5-1): NEEDS HELP
Logic would dictate a 10-1 Big 12 champion would reach the CFB Playoff. But that’s not necessarily a lock. If a 10-1 Cowboys team went up head-to-head against a non-champion, one-loss Notre Dame or Clemson, I’m not entirely sure the committee would place Oklahoma State in the playoff. Yes, conference championships are a separating factor. But a Cowboys team with only one win of 16-plus points (Kansas) still has a lot to prove.

SKULL SESSION: URBAN MEYER CAN RECRUIT AGAIN, GREG MCELROY CALLS OHIO STATE “A NIGHTMARE MATCHUP” AND THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AIN'T MOVING

MOVING FORWARD AS PLANNED. The College Football Playoff made it clear that it on Wednesday that it has no intentions of changing its schedule to allow for more games to be played or made up this season, which is wild but unshocking, given that their favorite thing in the world is money.

But there was another decision they came to that is considerably more interesting – if a selected team suffers a COVID-19 outbreak and cannot play, the committee won't pick a replacement team ot play in its place.

The College Football Playoff management committee on Wednesday agreed to keep the playoff on its current timeline and name a national champion as planned on Jan. 11 in Miami Gardens, Florida, unless the coronavirus pandemic forces a schedule change, CFP executive director Bill Hancock told ESPN.

The CFP management committee, which is made up of the 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, also determined that if a semifinalist is unable to play because of a COVID-19 disruption after Selection Day on Dec. 20, the selection committee would not choose a replacement team.

Hancock declined to speculate on what might happen, but said, "the committee will continue to do its due diligence between now and selection weekend."

Now, I hope this means that if there's a COVID outbreak then they'll just delay until that team is able to play. But what I'm worried this means is that if there's a COVID outbreak, that team will just forfeit and the other team will move on by default.

Totally unshockingly, there was no clarity on that.

Just sayin': Now, that's an interesting possibility.
