Forde-Yard Dash: Top Teams State Their Case for College Football Playoff Consideration

Ohio State (4). Let us start with the fact that we, THE Ohio State University, saved this season from being a half-hearted, half-nation Southern Invitational. If not for THE Ohio State University’s persistence in playing, the playoff would be left to the likes of the SEC, ACC and a couple of peasants from the Group of Five. So by all means, thank us for our service to football. And give us credit for squashing Indiana—people will try to say that game was close, but we never trailed and actually led for the final 2 1/2 quarters uninterrupted. Remember, we can score on anyone, we have a Heisman Trophy-caliber quarterback, and our coach occasionally likes to keep things interesting by passing up chip-shot field goals that could clinch games. One last thing: we also have the largest (and mouthiest) fan base in the country and we will make your lives a living hell if you leave us out. Check with Kevin Warren on that front. O-H …

The committee released a statement via a Q&A on Sunday.

“There is no minimum game requirement to be eligible for the College Football Playoff,” the committee announced. “The selection committee's job is to select the top four teams beginning November 24 and continuing through the final rankings December 20. The number of games and wins by each team is certainly important in weighing its ranking, but it is not the only factor.”

Conferences such as the Big Ten require a minimum amount of games to compete in their conference championship (six games). But, with the CFP’s non-requirement for minimum games, teams could hypothetically be a 7-0 conference champion and make the playoff.

NO. 2, MY LORD. Ohio State's been sitting at No. 3 in the polls since Notre Dame graciously asphyxiated Clemson in prime time, which is fair and fine, in my humble opinion.

But Vegas seems to think the committee's going to look a little more fondly on the Bucks as Ohio State as the heavy favorite to be No. 2 in the initial college football playoff rankings.

I'm skeptical, but I guess I'd take it. The real crime here, though, is that Cincinnati and BYU don't even have odds listed. Rank them in the top-4, cowards!

Im starting to think that they are going to end up throwing Texas A&M in at #4 in the end if them and Bama both win out.

Great Joy of a Bama/A&M rematch in the semi final. A game that Bama won by 28 points the first go around

I'll say the Gators have a better chance than A&M. For either school to get in they would have to win the SEC Championship Game, and for A&M just to get into the SEC Championship game Alabama would have to lose 2 of 3 remaining games between Auburn, Hogs, and LSU (which won't likely happen). I'm just wondering who gets picked between a 10-1 ND and a 7-0 PAC-12 Champion (i.e. Oregon, USC, or Washington).
