I am an avid golfer. There was a time when I was able to break 80. That is not the case now. But I walked Pebble Beach during a professional tournament. I am wondering: If an average golfer played somewhere like Pebble Beach, what would the score be? How many could really break 120?

By the way, I played with a man that I coached with and he putted better than most with a beer in his hand for all putts. :tongue2:

Well it really depends on what set of tees they play from. Most courses, even the most difficult in the world, are managable if you don't let your ego get in the way and you play from the right tees. To give a small example, I have been a Assistant Golf Professional for 10 years, my boss was an assistant at Oakmont for 3 years and we get to play there once or twice a year. Two years ago he took two of the best players at our club down to play. One of the two has won 5 City Tournaments and played college golf with Bob Ford, the Head Professional at Oakmont. The other has won multiple city tournaments as well and caries a +2 handicap. They were playing the U.S. Open tees and they made a bet as to who would make the first par. After nine holes two guys who both shoot under par on our course routinely, which hosted the US Women's Amateur in 2004, were still without a par. Neither broke 90.

Well...so far it's been easy as there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest quite yet. Maybe closer to spring will be a better time to bring it up...

Well, if there is any interest, I plan to participate in the Spielman Scramble and am looking for golfers.

Just got the application for this years. (They anticipate a bigger crowd this year)

Since its for a damn good charity and Buckeye related. Spielman should be there this year(unless he is hosting summer house part III) At the least, Stephanie came out last year and thanked everyone.

Here are the details.

Cost- 600.00 per foursome.

For that you get:
-participation in scramble at Heritage.

-Lunch (boxed probably)

-dinner (they had Outback cater last year)

-drinks (including the liquid version of Vitamin B)

-75.00 credit at the golf shop toward 1 of three different bags of goods. (last year it included some crappy 50 compression golf balls, a towell, a glove, a coupon for a blooming onion and some other stuff)

-participation in a silent auction/regular auction (I plunked down a bit for a nice framed photo of the catch in Ann Arbor by AG)

And the usual scramble stuff, contests, hole in one betting opportunities, etc....

Date- Monday June 30th.

Has there ever been a BuckyePlanet golf outing? I suck at golf(but love it still) and thought this might be an interesting trial. I wouldn't mind organizing it if I knew who was interested. I live in the Columbus area and could contact some local courses if I knew how many people were interested. I normally golf at one of the courses in Marysville but will contact as many as I could. Obviously it's a little early, but man...I miss golf! I bought all new clubs last year and can't wait to get them back out on the courses.

So, if you're interested, shoot me your e-mail and such in a PM and I'll start a little database and keep you updated on what I'm able to find out. Might be interesting. I may be able to talk a few of the vendors I work with to sponser a few holes to help the cost. We will see what I'm able to do...

And if someone has already done this and plans on doing this again, I did not mean to step on your toes, and I can forward you all the information I might get to allow you to continue the tradition.

SIMV organized one at Oakhaven a couple years ago. It was his first time playing. They actually turned one of his divots into a pond on hole #5 :wink2:

It would be sweet to be in that, but there is no way I would be able to afford that. Only thing that sucks being young and trying to pay for a wedding.

I've got great ideas for a scramble if I'm able to get the interest.

I've sent an e-mail to the webmaster to make sure they have no problems with it, as I did not want someone to think I had the wrong intentions.

First and foremost, I do not plan on making a profit on this. Any money that comes in for this are going to be towards three things.

1. Golfing.

2. Dinner.

3. Some raffle stuff.

And it will be in that order as to what I spend the money on too. I can provide receipts to anyone that might need to see them to show them no profit will be made.

If a mod reads this and doesn't mind making sure the admin or whoever it may be that needs to approve this doesn't mind I do this, it would be appreciated.

I've got a few responses already so just PM me your e-mail address and I'll make sure you stay updated. This is all still waiting the approval from the right people at Buckeye Planet, but as long as I get enough names, it'll still just be an outing.

I'd be more inclined to participate if proceeds were directed towards the spring drive/ fundraisng for BP!

Let me preface this by saying that I am in no way affiliated with what I am about to endorse.

For those of you in Southwest Ohio I would recommend Mike McGee (Middletown Ohio) if you are looking for lessons. I received a 45 minute lesson this afternoon in an attempt to get some consistency out of my iron play. Previously, I never knew what I was going to get from my irons. One time I would fly it, the next I would send it right, then I would hit one good and then I would top one 50 yards.

Mike shortened my swing, moved me slightly closer to the ball and most importantly had me transfer my wrists much earlier. The result was iron shots like I never dreamed of. Consistent accuracy, distance and height every time.

Best of all Mike is a former Buckeye golfer and PGA tour player.

went to Bethpage yesterday on a whim hoping to maybe get out on the black (2002 US Open, and upcoming 2009), but it was a 6 hour wait to tee off. i played one of their other courses, the red, which was pretty good in its own right. par 70, 7000 yards with fantastic greens. the only downside was that it took about 6 hours to play. the weird thing is that we really only waited on the group ahead on a few holes.
