i've played there a handful of times. it's an interesting course. many would play the course and think there's little special about it. even for an old course, it is unique in that very little land was moved to make it. the course is all about angles. you'll know what i mean when you play the course. i hope that the greens will be fast and the rough won't be cut when you play. that course is a beast when it's in prime condition. the last time i played (from the next-to-back tees; about 7100 or so), it was just in "okay" condition. this was at the end of the season the year before the open. they didn't really care how the course looked or played at that time.

by the way, you will absolutely laugh when you see the driving range. it is worse than raymond memorial's driving range. you hit off of mats into a net that is about 200 yards away. also, cars drive in directly to the right of the range, and there is no net between the range and the road. it's an absolute joke. what is not a joke is the locker room. :yow1:

are you playing the west or the east course? the west is the championship course, but the east course is, in my opinion, more fun.

not sure which course. by angles i'm assuming you mean doglegs, overhanging trees etc. just becuase you are in the fairway doesn't mean you hit a good drive. i like playing like that. makes it hard on someone who has never played the course before though.

a bunch of holes look far more different from the fairway than they do from the tee box. also, there are numerous holes where your landing area will be at an angle to the direction of the tee box. this effectively makes the fairway smaller. many of the greens are that way, too. you will have forced carries to greens that run from, say, front left to back right. again, this effectively makes the greens smaller.

they've cut a lot of trees down in the last 5 or so years. there aren't that many trees that come into play from the fairways. of course, if your drive is askew, then trees certainly come into play.

the east course's greens are more crazy than the west's. the breaks are more extreme; however, the width of the fairways and the more forgiving cut of the rough offset the tricks of the greens.

i remember from watching the open that the bunkers are extremely deep. i just like playing old style championship golf courses. i played olympia fields last summer and that was amazing. one of my favorite courses around in NCR in Dayton.

umm... i've never walked away thinking that a striking characteristic about the course was that the bunkers are deep. sure, there are some deep bunkers, but i don't think it's too much different from most championship courses. heck, muirfield has (or had at one time) the second deepest bunker (front bunker on hole no. 8) on tour. i guess that's neither here nor there, though.

Leaving oh-dark hundred on Friday for Tampa to meet with some law school buddies for our eleventh straight year of the "C-3" Tourney. We have a little three day triathalon of golf, poker, and eat/drink excess. Not a pretty sight for sure. If you puss out and do not play cards until 2:00 am minimum, you are handicapped the next day appropriately.

Two nights lodging, two nights of free steaks at Dempsey's steak house, (the 27 oz bone-in "cowboy" steak is my fave, charred but rare), two days of quality breakfast buffet, and often amusement by local single moms who are dancers. Good times.

If I can get over the fact that my long time teammate and best friend is not with me this year because of his voluntary check out from the living, I might have as good a time as I normally do. Makers Mark, do thy stuff.:(

Played Northstar Saturday.

It was pretty nice. Fairly flat. Once it matures it is going to be a very good course.

The greens are spectacular (and they are real) Once they settle in, it is going to be a very difficult course.

The membership cost for the course if very reasonable for now.

I wish the weather would cooperate a bit more. I'd go golfing tomorrow but it's going to be hot as

(well you get the picture). I walk when I play golf but it probably would be much easier if I just would use a cart. Oh well not gonna do it.
