Tips I assume?

Great round.

I have to say that this year I have noticed the greens at Cooks not being as good as in the past. The grass seems to be very thin.

thanks.

that was my first time out there, but i found the greens to be a bit rough on the eyes. lots of patches of different colored grasses. with that said, they putt great which is all i care about.

You hackers:biggrin2: might want to take a few lessons from
Bobby Wyatt.

AP updated 7:29 p.m. ET, Wed., July 28, 2010

MOBILE, Ala. - Bobby Wyatt shot a 57 at the Alabama Boys State Junior Championship.

The University of Alabama-bound teen, who turns 18 this weekend, had 12 birdies, an eagle and five pars Wednesday on the par-71, 6,628-yard course at the Country Club of Mobile. His birdie putt hung on the lip on the 18th green and he had to settle for par.
Wyatt needed 23 putts total and shot a 9-under 26 on the front nine.

23 putts will do it...

Lot of golf coming up. Played Little Turtle last night...very tight track, especially from the tips. Was supposed to play Scarlet tomorrow but a scheduling conflict means we are moving to somewhere else...possilby Bent Tree or New Albany Links. Got the phone call yesterday to play in the member-guest next weekend at The Lakes. Really looking forward to that...

I played Little Mountain 10 years ago or so, not long after it first opened. Beautiful course, huge bunkers with bright white sand. It may be private now, don't know?

BTW, first day of high school try outs yesterday, my son shot a 40-48 at Brookledge in Cuyahoga Falls.

I played the Lakes a long time ago...nice course. The only thing I remember from the round is putting on the last green and betting one of the members that i could get the putt within 3 ft of the whole (it was a 25' putt orginally). He thought (incorrectly) that I would putt towards the hole and I wouldn't notice the huge break. I actually had to putt away from the hole and used a ridge to bring it back to the cup. Got a free beer out of the deal, but it was (that hole) like playing putt-putt without the boards....I think it was on the 18th green but I could be mistaken....

Don't know how it works for y'all, but took a nine hole playing lesson from the pro. He didn't tell me anything I haven't read or knew, but helped me put it together. Set up square, bring the club head back to square, keep the hands low, back straight, right shoulder below the left, etc. Swing on a smooth, plane, inside out (hit the ball toward second base), and snap the wrists through. I'm 6'6" and 240, and always used arms to swing, but have slowed down, straight back, (don't cock wrists, but keep straight), and tuck the elbow in tight. Weight on the right instep, with knee flexed. If you take the club back straight, it promotes shoulder turn, and ends up a straighter shot, but when I try to 'air it out' I come over the top, and end up in the right rough or OB. The '2' I play with tells me to relax and not to hit with the big boys, but keep it in play and put the second one on, or close enough to chip and give yourself a 4' putt or less for par. Short game. PS, forget who said it, but the Volkey wedges DO chew up golf balls, but I'll sacrifice them to get some action and stop the ball close to the pin.

Good swinging, hit it long, straight, and not too often.

Was supposed to have dinner at Charlie Trotter's last week, but a budgetary conflict forced me to instead dine at McDonalds.
i used to do some business with an old timer, depression era guy who got up and left the family farm. elite law school. and the guy would always call up and when he was serious as shit hed want to have lunch for business purposes. hed take me to a "world famous" restaurant all the time, wed sit under the golden arches and talk business. one of the stingiest, but best businessmen i knew...

This will be the first year I wont be attending the WGC up at Firestone in 10 years. Working sucks. Dad has free tickets for me since he's the head Marshall, but I can't make it :(

Has anyone played the 'new' Scarlet yet? I was in C'bus last week (Mom passed), but didn't have time to play (also thought it might be tacky to take my sticks to a funeral). Did have lunch with wife and daughter in the clubhouse, pretty nice, food decent, pretty co-eds serving, many graybeards there lunching. Looked over the new scorecard and spoke with the Asst Pro. In the 'old days' we had to add 5 strokes to our scores on the Gray to be able to post (Scarlet was that much harder). Now they are saying 7 strokes. Course is longer, and probably has a higher course rating.

Anyone played it yet? Would like to know by a 'practitioner' how the new course differs from the old lay-out. On 16 of the Scarlet, used to take the teeball out over the road, and fade it back around the green. Now, that's impossible because of the tree growth. But with the new equipment, some of the young studs probably take it over the top.....

any idea what tees the high school kids play from for the state title?

On most courses it will be the Blue/back tees. I know they look to achieve a certain course rating with the tee placement, so if a course is particularly difficult, they may use a mixture of placements. Typically the back tees.

before they put scarlet on steroids, they used to play the tips. i doubt they do that anymore. coach brown sets up the course, and he purposely makes it ridiculously hard. i would imagine they play it somewhere around 7200 yards (par 70 btw). when it is 45 degrees and windy that is no walk in the park. that is for D1 and D2 btw. D3 is playing state at NorthStar in sunbury (which I'm playing tomorrow by chance). i would imagine that they go much easier on them and set it up around 6700 yards. afterall, they used to play D3 on the gray course which is a pitch and putt compared to scarlet.
