Been playing the same set of off the rack genero brand irons for 10 years and thought maybe it was time for an upgrade since I've been air-mailing greens so much this year. Looking to actually hit my irons shorter and get more consistent distance on them.

I demoed the Mizuno MP 57 irons today and man did they feel sweet.

The guy put me on the machine at Golfsmith and said he'd probably lengthen all the the clubs an inch and lift the head up 1 degree.

Anyone else have any expereince with these irons good or bad?

i don't really think there is anything important to consider when buying irons other than if you like the way they look and you like the way they feel. if they are 80 dollar kmart irons that you like, go for it.

side note: you may be air-mailing greens because your grooves are worn out. i've got an old set of titleists and my 7 iron goes about 15yds further than it should because there aren't any grooves left on it. just a thought.

I shot an 87 yesterday at OSU Gray course...and that's with a 49 on the front (Don't want to talk about it). Hadn't played in 2 months so I was a bit rusty at the beginning. I also had 3 putts lip out on the back 9, so I could have shot even or 1 under on the back. Anyone have a Alumni membership or anything like that?

I'm in Bethpage, NY for the US Open next week, working again to setup the registers for the merchandise tents. 12-16 hour days, every day, and on your feet the entire time...like night and day from the normal 9-5 desk job, and not nearly enough extra compensation :(

Only cool part thusfar was seeing Michael Jordan on the driving range before the Pro Am.

Finally settled on a set of new clubs and got the Mizuno MP-52's.

Only had an opportunity to play them once and didn't hit enough shots with them to get a true feel.

Also got a Mizuno hybrid since my set didn't have a 3 iron and I'm still feeling it out as well.

Anyone here track stats/rounds on Stracka or oobgolf?

I've been on oobgolf for awhile, but Stracka offers a free official USGA handicap- so I joined there too and migrated my data.

They're both pretty cool sites! If you join, look me up - DA-Bucks is my username on both sites.

that would have been nice to know a week ago. i paid 35 bucks to get a handicap at a local club last weekend. i'm playing at my buddy's member guest in july and i had to have one.

Seriously?

Oh, you meant other than length, loft, shaft flex, shaft weight, lie angle, and amount of offset right?

Hey Thump - when you say "lift the head up 1 degree" do you mean one degree more upright? Lengthening them one inch will make them effectively 2 degrees more upright (and also add about 6 points to the swingweight, but that's only a feel thing), so if you're bending them another degree, that's 3 degrees upright.
That's not really alot, however, and most people need more upright anyway.
Adding length will also make your shafts play very slightly more flexible, but the heavier feel created by the length will probably help you be more consistent with your distance.

Anyone ever play timberview up in Marysville?

I played it yesterday with a friend that lives up there. Decent course, not to many frills, BUT it's $21 all you can play every weekend after 11:00am.
yes. about two years ago. with a friend, im told it was fun. at that time i believe it was unlimited golf. long story short i ended up leaving my car and having to pick it up the next day....

Thump how were those clubs fit to you? Did you go 1" long and 1 up?

57s are nice irons - just be sure you got the right fit. I pretty much agree with Nightmare's post.

For me, 1" long is about as extreme as I ever fit anyone. If a person was adamant about having that length added, I'd be sure to have them hit 20+ shots with a 3,6,9 (or similar combination) off a lie board to make sure they were making consistent contact at the right points and were getting the appropriate dispersion and flight.

Regardless, enjoy the clubs! The great thing about Mizunos is that they are easy to adjust, so if you find your self pulling a lot of shots it's not hard to bend it back down a little.

Shot an 83 today at the parents' club...Was even through 5 and then lost control of the driver unfortunately. If I had that under control all 18, it would have been mid 70's. I've never broken 80 so overall I'm pretty happy with it. In fact this 83 is one of the better rounds I've played before. Stupid driver though.
