Tomorrow should be a great day....

First time out in over three weeks....doing way too much traveling with the new job and trying to get the house sold and family moved....

I'm playing with my nephew who I haven't golfed with in about 4 years at a course in NE NC that neither of us have played....

Should be FANFRICKINGTASTIC.....

Getting to this a little late...

Congrats Thump, glad to hear you went with Scott. As you know I trust him fully when it comes to clubs and fittings.

Yea, most strangers I play with don't really follow the rules. I let them play how they want, but I know they're full of sh*t when they say they're an 8 handicap when they hitting mulligans, dropping inappropriately, forget how to count, and act like a little girl on the course (that usually goes hand in hand with these guys). I always love to hear how they "always play better than this!" when they walk into the clubhouse shooting around 95.

I don't mind if a guy is a casual golfer and just doesn't care about his score and just wants to play the game. That's great. But the scratch - 12 handicappers that obviously are not are the ones I love to laugh at and call them on their lies. Somehow those guys will never bet with me...

Played golf with the Nephew yesterday at a course in nowhere NE NC yesterday. It was $30 for all the wholes you could play including the cart. It was a beautiful but hot day. The course was mostly cut out of pine trees.

I hadn't played in three weeks, so I was struggling a little with the short game and consistency. I shot a 91 with a quad and a triple bogey and then a 43 as we played an additional 9.

The nephew tied me, which didn't make me feel too bad about things. He flew one in from about 80 yards which was cool. What did make me feel bad was I let him try my rescue wood and he hit it about 30 yards farther than me...aaah youth is served....

Got out twice over the weekend...making a run to Golf Galaxy today to look at replacing my hyrbid (big sale on last year's Taylor Mades).

Just a reminder that we have a BP HandicapTracker page:

Golf HandicapTracker

I play the R7 TPs. Can't say that I've found a better club. I can work the ball in any direction with ease. If you happen to see the iron's on deal, I can't give a club a better reco than I can these.

I've yet to get out this year with them as the kiddos are getting going into lacrosse season so all of my time has been spent working on stick skilz... but I'm really looking forward to getting out soon. Jealous.

Went into the simulator and hit about 6 different hybrids...Nike SQ Sumo, Taylor Made TP Rescue and Burner Rescue, Callaway FT, Ping Rapture...settled on the Taylor Made Burner Rescue. The combination of price and the fact that on the simulator it gave me the most consistent carry and distance I was looking for made it an easy choice. I was looking for something that would carry around 200 yards and while with most of the other brands that meant a #3 hybrid, with Taylor Made I was carrying the ball around 215 and totaling around 230. Taylor Mades have slightly less loft than their counterparts so I had to go with a #4 (22 degree loft) rather than the #3 (19 degree loft).

I got out once a couple weeks ago, hope to get out again this weekend. This'll be my first full season.

After picking up the game near the end of last summer with a cheap starter set, I've decided that I enjoy golf enough to start replacing some of the clubs in my bag with something a little better.

This past weekend Golf Galaxy had a sale on a few drivers that caught my eye, and I planned on buying one while the prices were low. The TaylorMade Burner 07 had caught my eye because it was only $149 and I liked what I read in the reviews better than the other clubs on sale. I went in the store, took a look at the new ones, and on the way to find somebody to help me out went by the used clubs. I found a used Burner 07 for half the sale price of a new one. I hit a few and loved it. I'm looking forward to playing my first round with it. After taking it to the range I figure I've added some decent yardage to what I was getting with my starter driver. My old club felt like I was hitting a brick - even when I'd manage to hit the supposed sweet spot.

I've also added a couple used Titleist wedges to my bag - 60* and 55*. The 60* looked virtually brand new, and they both came pretty cheap - probably thanks to the new groove rules that I really don't give a damn about.

I've also picked up a used Odyssey White Hot putter. I used it for the first time a couple weeks ago and it helped a lot. I feel like I can line up my putts (and myself) better with a blade putter rather than the mallet that came with my set. It feels better when I make contact too. I got it shortened and put on a new grip, and it's awesome. I was definitely more confident on the green as a result, and it showed up on the scorecard.

The nice thing is that I haven't had to spend all that much to get this stuff - I've probably spent a total of about $110 on all those clubs combined. I've been able to make some upgrades that I think will help me play better, but I'm not at a place yet where I'd be OK with shelling out serious money on new equipment.

West burbs mostly. I'm in bloomingdale so there's a ton of good stuff around. Indian Lakes is basically my back yard. I also get out to the Bloomingdale golf club, Glendale Lakes, White Pines, Cantigny, Schaumburg GC, and for some reason I used to play Mount Prospect quite a bit...

We also have family property in a recreational community up in TSUN. I generally get up there for a week every summer and play a minimum of 18 a day... some days go for 36+ as it's all you can play with a cart after 2:00 PM for $25 for memebers... That alone makes owning property in TSUN worthwhile.

The golf dome in Addison is a God send in the winter. I also dig Top Golf with the fam. The wife, when her game is on, is pretty competitive on the course so we play whenever we can get time. My oldest boy is 8 and has a monster turn... I've got to get him some instruction before I break him. He's done well under me but at this point I'll start doing more damage than good. The younger one is now 5 and is following in his brothers footsteps... so, here's to hoping for a good season of golf.

Where do you play?

I've found that you can really put a nice set together buying used clubs/sets from places like Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy and/or buying used demos from golf clubs. Buying a used set of clubs can be an especially great investment, particularly if you take them somewhere and get new grips and also get the lofts measured to make sure they aren't off from continued use.

I am still hitting the Taylor Made R7 off the tee. A couple of weeks ago I thought about upgrading to a 2009 Burner or a 2009 R9 but the fact is that I rarely miss a fairway with the R7 so if it ain't broker, don't fix it. I used to carry an R7 3-wood that I seldom ever took out of the bag so I dropped it in favor of a utility wedge. I find having the versatility of having a PW and SW along with two other wedges I carry is something I use far more often than a 3-wood. I have an offset Cobra Speed 5-wood that was a demo at my club that I love. And I just added the aforementioned #4 Taylor Made Burner Rescue hybrid. At the end of last season I bought a new set of Callaway X18s that were on a ridiculous sale at Martin's down in Myrtle Beach and I absolutely love them. The set is 4-SW. Wedge-wise I am a big Cleveland fan...I have a chrome CG11 3-dot 60-degree and a black pearl CG12 2-dot 48-degree. Like jlb said I am not worried about the fact they have zip grooves with the new rules...I'm not playing in any PGA-sanctioned events any time soon. And at the end of last season I got a great deal on a Ping iWi Series Craz-E putter.

Cantigny is one of my favorite. I play all over. Some of my favorites-- Orchard Valley, Glen Ellyn, Ruffled Feathers, Springbrook. Mill Creek used to be decent but last time out it sucked and I have not been back. I dont mind Harbourside or Fox Bend too much. Settlers Hill when it was cheap(7-8 years ago) was a hell of a deal. I played White Deer Run with fourteenandoh a few summers back and that was a solid track. I am always looking for new courses. It is unfortunate that most of the courses I have listed are about an hour commute from me in the city. My goal is to play 30 rounds this year, hopefully I can get it done.

I've been playing so often, for so long, that it has gotten to the point where the thought of a hole in one crosses my mind on almost every par 3 i step up to. I hit a good one on number 9 at airport on friday. 165, 8 iron in a strong cross wind. It landed about 20 ft short of the pin and bounced toward the hole then ended up about 6 feet long and right. I left the putt short! It was a rough day.
