Ransom had a bad game. Got roasted on a zone replacement for a TD, then got beat again later on a double move switch that was slow played. Topped it off with the late P.I. because he panicked in coverage.
That's the beauty and horror of safety play. Bad, and it's like having 10 guys on defense. Good, and offenses feel like they're playing against 12 guys.
ScUM coaches took great advantage of individual short comings. That's good scouting. Burke missing a tackle short of the sticks that ended up being a 75yard TD is another example.
They also involve their QBs scrambling ability by design. Not much, but enough to let you know it's there. That speed option to the strongside B gap bubble from inside the 10 - That's classic Troy vs *ichigan, vs Iowa, vs Minny. Tress always had that look in his back pocket.
Just too many big plays. A couple terrible timed penalties and a failure to convert a few 3rd downs doomed this team.
CJ... I have questions about him when he isn't throwing from the cleanest pocket. He also fails to utilize his scrambling ability when it would best suit him in run-to-throw situations. Passer blessed with mobility is a gift, don't shy away from every tool in the cabinet.
Coach Day - I have questions on your play call structure and choice of concepts re: various downs and distances. I also have curiosities about how the WR snap count is distributed throughout the season.
I'm painfully, tragically, looking at this game with sober eyes while trying to find anything on YouTube or elsewhere with all22 footage so I can see more. But there's something else that looks and 'feels' lacking with this team. I have no other word to describe it at the moment, as I tend to avoid cliche's and nonsense.
