THE GAME, tOSU at tCun, Sat. 11/25, 12pm ET, FOX

and I keep giving an easy answer

I don't have a comprehensive list of guys who can take over. Don't need to. Isn't my job. The empty suit AD should have one.

TCU found a guy who can overcome the insurmountable genius of Jim Harbaugh. An OSU AD who's actually engaged and gives a shit should be able to outdo his TCU counterpart at the very least.

There are maybe 4-5 guys who wouldn't come here.
You don't know who is better that Ryan Day, but you know that Ryan Day is not the coach. TCU found a coach that could beat Michigan. How are the Horned Frogs doing this year? Ohio State found a coach who beat Michigan once and thought he would be able to do it for years. He was John Cooper.

And I’d respond that you are more unrealistic than I if you don’t think Day has had us on the doorstep.

Day can still win one every 8.5 years (Tress and Urbans combined average. You contend that because he didn’t in 5 he can’t. I’d retort that the same was said of Kirby (current King of coaching). after 5 years. And that Saban (GOAT) didn’t win one until year 9 (year 4 with LSU). I don’t expect that Day matches either of those guys, but think he can get it done. If 2002 didn’t happen until 2009ish, are we canning Tress for only beating mediocre Mich teams outside 2006 in which we followed it up being embarrassed?

Day’s going to be back next year so I’ll have hope. If you want to focus on the post-Day world from today on, go ahead.

If the NCAA nukes tsun then he won't lose a big game until the CFP. I'll give you that. Then what? He's 1-3 in the CFP too.

What happens if they don't? What if Jimmy is still there? Day all of a sudden going to start figuring this shit out pre CFP?

I know it hurts to admit but Day isn't the guy.

It's been 5 years and nothing has changed.

If my profession was that of athletic director I'd have a list.

Seeing that it isn't I'll go with "the logical fallacy that I must have a name to be pilloried by the true believers before I can criticize the current faithful" isn't actually an argument at all.

I can tell a flight sucks without being able to fly the plane or tell you the roster of backup pilots.

Did you know who Hafley was before you criticized the 2018 defense?

Yeah but you never checked the pilot when you booked the flight to begin with.

Since you bring up Hafley, there's the first question. Do you find a CEO head coach and sometimes have Tom Herman and other times have Tim Beck.

And yeah he was the Browns DB coach at some point before that (probably sucked!)

I didn't know who should replace Cooper either I could tell he wasn't the guy.

We should have kept Cooper then by this silly ass logic.

Yeah but again, as message board guy...not my job and doesn't invalidate the logic of being able to tell the flight sucks.

The arguments I'm seeing to defend Day would've been done with Cooper.

"He wins most of his games."
"Look at his recruiting classes."

I'm not the AD and I don't have a list of candidates, so skip that line. I'm just saying we have to consider that Day - in his first ever head coaching job - may have a ceiling in spite of his high floor.

If you're content with the floor, cool. If you're willing to risk it in pursuit of a higher ceiling, we're on the same page.

Top 5 recruiting classes are the benchmark now?
You win with talent in CFB and certain coaches recruit that talent based off of winning and stability. Regardless of how you feel about Day, he wins most of time and produces proven NFL talent in the skill positions (CB, WR, RB, and most importantly QB). Yes, that’s something we need out of a coach to eventually win big, even if it didn’t happen today. Of course, I want to beat TSUN and our top five opponents, but people act like everything I just named is easily replicable with another coach. College football is full of coaches who can only do 1: coach or recruit. We have a coach who can do both well, albeit he probably recruits a little better than he coaches. Can anyone name someone who will realistically do both at a high level in year one? Because one thing I do agree with it that there can be no drop off in top level relevance…

Jimmy is done coaching in college after this year.

No. Your point was that TCU found a coach that could beat Michigan so we should be able to find a coach that can beat Michigan. Ohio State tried that once and they got John Cooper. Keeping Cooper was not part of that argument.
