THE GAME, tOSU at tCun, Sat. 11/25, 12pm ET, FOX

So you don't think it's possible to put guys in the NFL (and therefore be a recruiting destination) as has been the cas esince the 1950's AND be competitive in The Game/CFP?

We have to choose to recruit like Day (and the past 30+ years of coaches before him) has done but be ok with losing games against anyone with a pulse?

We should have just kept Cooper then.
The game is different now with NIL. OSU is not guaranteed a top 20 recruiting class. As I’m sure you’re paying attention to, OSU is losing high level recruits to schools who haven’t won jack shit in years due to ridiculous NIL deals. We just can’t pick the kids we want and go play anymore. It gets harder and harder every year to recruit and without stability (which includes constant winning which the players recognize), we can’t get anywhere.

I think the Cooper comparisons are irrelevant 1) Day has the luxury of an expanded playoff and will have multiple chances to win something after this year regardless of the games outcome 2) this is the last tue rendition of the game and 3) Name somebody other than Saban or Smart who would come here tomorrow, win 10+ games and maintain our recruiting?

I said it before, I'll say it again, our guy might just be coaching in Madison. Had an outstanding five-year run with the Juggalos, had a bit of an up-and-down year with Cheese, but didn't walk into a great situation. I'm curious to see how he does next year. Day's getting at least next year, but if it goes south, bring Luke home.
Want to agree with this but have to see how next year goes. Would really hate for things to not work out (again).

Thanks for playing.

Remember we had to send Tress along, and it was the right thing.

We suffered through Fickell and the fairies were good enough to bless us with Urban Meyer. Dumb fuckin luck. (even when herbstreit attempted to get Tressel fired in 2004, its because he wanted Meyer before Florida got him, and honestly I was mostly on board- yes all this really happened)

I'm cool if you have a plan. But you don't

Your plan before they fired Cooper?

Don't give me the list of candidates that anyone can remember from back then (minus Belotti by the way)

Tell me who you wanted as Cooper blew the '98 season. Or who you had in mind when his team sleepwalked through the Air Force game?

According this nonsensical argument, no one could have criticized him or wanted another coach without a comprehensive list of replacements.

Next year's schedule is a cakewalk, Knowles should field another defense that gives up <=9 points per game, the QB will be "electric," and scum will be a shell of what they are now. With Nix gone, Knowles' D, good RB group, vet OLine and our "electric" QB, I like our chances at UO, then again against UO or UW in Indianapolis. Buckeyes could make a legit run at another Natty.

Going undefeated into post-season play next year is as close to guaranteed as it could be. And he has won a playoff game with an electric QB. So I'm good with Day getting another shot next year.

If he were to not get it done again next year, maybe ask Vrabel if he might be interested..

Well I won't give you a list then,!

Calmed down a bit and I just don’t know what to make of any of it.

I have no clue how 330 yards gets you 31 points. Other than a bad turnover and a bunch of bad ST plays.

My concern for this game was playing clean and stopping their run. We stopped their run decent but we couldn’t get out of our own way. We failed to catch the ball for crucial spots, threw two picks, had penalties, and the STs were trash.

So I take back pinning it on Kyle all the way (although he can’t throw 2 picks like that). This is Ryan Days mess to own and I have to say I’m there with Jax now. I love Ryan but to me something seems off in these big time games.

Where is the trick plays and the wrinkles we’ve come to know from Tressel etc? Shoes on the other foot now and thankfully the next game is at home and they’re missing a boat load of players next year.

I’m not sure if Ryan is the answer but then again who is? And I’m not for just reading Coach Day out for some weird hot name or something. This program can turn into Texas quick with the wrong hire so if it’s not Day it’s better be someone that’s an obvious slam dunk. Until that guy is clear we have to stay the course.
Everyone hated Tressel for calling Dave 47 times per game. But when it came to The Game, Tressel threw the entire book at them. Every single constraint play for Dave got called.

Day can't even call Dave 47 times per game. He just throws plays at the wall and hopes some of them stick. He's honestly worse than Cooper. He doesn't show his hand too early like Coop used to do. He has NO CLUE how to play his hand.

So give the guy who is 2-6 in big games.....more big games and all will be well.

Solid plan.

To me, losing the game sucked but it happens. What’s bothered me the most is that TTUN has gone out of its way to be as demeaning as humanly possible toward our team. Belittling the coach, belittling the players. And the last two years it has looked on the field like our coaches and players don’t care at all. If we lose, whatever. But where is our pride? Why is this program so okay with being publicly mocked ad nauseum by TTUN?

If the Buckeyes don't want to be treated like soft bitches, then they should stop playing like soft bitches.

Ryan Day is a soft bitch.

We’ll see how long the recruiting holds up.

TTUN has basically called us soft cowards every chance they've had for three years now and all Ryan Day has done is validated their claims each year. The only time in five years he hasn't just sat there and taken it was when it came from an 86 year old man who is one strong wind from death.

There aren't a lot of kids out there who are going to want to go play for a program that's totally fine with being called bitches all the time.

Again, IMO we’d be dumping a solid 8.5 in hopes that we can get a 10, when the single pool is full of 7s at best.

Well then, if we are going to set our sights on being Wisconsin, let's go take their coach.

Or any other coach in America that maybe could have done more than get MHJr the ball 5 fucking times in The Game of their life.

For me our definition of 'competitive' differs.

First, we keep glossing over the fact that Day has ONE non top 5 loss in 5 years. ONE! That in of itself is insane. Without looking it up, going to say no one else can say that, probably not for a while actually. I mean can the guy get some credit for winning the games he is supposed to win literally better than anyone else?

Second, 1-3 in CFP works for me as an average. Three coaches have 20 of the 27 all time playoff wins - everyone else pales in comparison. Tress was 1-2. Urban was 2-1, but does he get a pass for the losses he had that kept him out of further opportunities?

Third, 1-3 is not an acceptable outcome. But it's disingenuous to not at least acknowledge no coach except maybe Woody had a tougher stretch in the Game.

So given the above. I think Day is our best bet going forward. He loses at home next year, I stop caring about the first two points and then we can tell him to go get his bag in the NFL or elsewhere. Even then, until he stings together a couple of wins and get to .500, he remains on my 'hot seat'.

I feel this is about as reasonable a take I can have for not wanting to show him the door tomorrow, as you seem to feel is the only correct answer.

Again, the question is do you want to win 10-11 games a year or do you want to win a National Championship. What you have now can get you the 10-11 but he can't get you the trophy.

Elite programs aim to win championships.
Average programs aim to win games.
