Game Thread THE GAME: #1 Ohio State 42, #2 Michigan 39 (11/18/06)

"Not so fast my friend". scUM offensive line is amazing at zone blocking i wouldnt predict us to win comfortably at all. We have yet to play an Offensive line that zone blocks. Minny does it sometimes but not enough to give us alot of practice for nov 18. I think this is the key to the game. If we can stop hart and nullify the zone blocking using alot of stunts and DE fallbacks i think we will have a great chance of winning.

Barring serious injuries to key players(Pitcock, Smith, Ginn, Pittman, etc.) I'm very confident in my prediction. However, if it's a rainy day like the Penn St. game then I expect it to be a dog fight. Don't believe the hype. scUM is a very good team but they're not on our level. I can really see the media hyping them to be just as good or better than us brainwashing fans already. I've watched them and believe me, they're not as good as people are making them out to be. Their D-Line hasn't faced an O-Line even on the same planet as ours. Notre Dame's, Iowa's, and Penn St.'s are the best they've faced and those suck.

I have never in my life been so confident about The Game and our chances. We will dominate and win this one by 2 scores assuming the game is played under normal conditions(both teams are mostly healthy and it's a clear day).

That is true but my main point was that a team that zone blocks as well as Michigan does can give a young defense fits. Young defenses usually over pursue running plays and when you zone block it can open up major holes for a cutback.

Our defense isn't exactly what I'd consider young anymore. They've played over half of a season, and have played some very good teams. Those guys, playing behind the fuel of the screaming Horeshoe, don't worry me one bit in that game.

Totally True. It's like music to their ears when the defensive players hear the loud chants and noise comming from the crowd to cheer them on.

IMO, Wisconsin is the best O-Line that scUM has faced, and I would absolutely put them up there with us. Wiscy's running game wasn't overly effective against them either.

That's true but Wisky isn't much of a threat through the air. I know Stocco is an efficient passer but if you shut down their run game he's ineffective. I'm not saying their D-Line isn't good or even great but it isn't worthy of "one of the best of all-time" compliments.

Best run blocking O-line? I would sure as hell hope so, that is the majority of their game.
Now when it comes to the air-game (and true the connections per se are not the O-line's responsibility) they really only shine at one thing - zero sacks.
Despite what sounds like excellent protection, Stocco is not lighting it up on the scorebaord through the air - which is due to Wisconsin's widely acknowledged lack of scoring threats in the receiving corps. Message, no-one with a heartbeat in the secondary respects their receivers as playmakers. Thus, when facing Michigan they were going to be put squarely into a 1-dimensional mode - which is exactly what happened. Michigan cannot afford to tempt fate with the Buckeyes in a similar fashion - the Bucks have simply too many weapons.

As for their O-line vs our D-line, playing the Buckeyes earlier in the year I am certain Wisconsin's ground game would have netted good numbers. Today? Not so clear. I'll bet we would see numbers closer to Michigan's performance (i.e. the nullifying of the ground game) than say, what happened against NIU early in the year.

So, maybe this has come up already... But, I haven't seen it -

Has any team ever played 3 #1 v. #2 matchups in one season before? If Michigan stays unbeaten, and we do... And if we beat Michigan, we will play 3 in one year - not too shabby

The topic has come up a few times. Go to the home page, and look at the beginning of the Indiana game preview.

It's also witihin this thread, post #96. Other info like that is also found in posts #107 and #121.

I've waited almost 25 years for what is 25 days away. I went to my first Buckeye game 25 years ago...in my mother's stomach. Ever since I can remember i have invisioned this #1 vs. #2 match-up...and not just both teams being 1 and 2...but Ohio State being #1 and Michigan being #2...and not just on any year...but on an even year...so the game is at THE SHOE. I sometimes wonder if i'm dreaming...or if this is even possible. This will likely never happen again in our lifetimes. It hasn't before.

I will not forget 1996. 2002 wasn't enough. We finally got our undefeated season...but we never got revenge. This is revenge for '95 and '96. It's to do what we couldn't do in '97. This is not just about going to the national championship game...it's about ruining that for Michigan. For crushing every Michigan fans hopes and dreams. This is for having all those Michigan fans who dare step into The Shoe in 25 days. To have them look at the 100,000 screaming Buckeye fans at the end of the game, and be jealous. To say, "I wish we had that." I hate everything about them. Their puke colors. Their stupid helemts. Their idiot coach. Their gay fight song and band. Their ugly stadium...and their even uglier city and state. They are just disgusting. Sure, without them, we wouldn't have this game. But that's about all they are good for. 25 days can't come quick enough. I'm going to have butterflies in my stomach from now until then. But when the clock reads 0:00 against Northwestern, it's really going to set in. Michigan week is almost upon us...and this one will be the biggest week in Ohio State history.

This one is for 1996...enjoy the one loss season Michigan fans. ENJOY THE ROSE BOWL!!! Maybe you can win it this year!
