I'll give you $80 and a foam finger from 1995 for it

The proper response for that offer is a finger of your own.

Come to think of it, here is a list of possible offers for a ticket to THE GAME; and the appropriate response for each.

  • < $100 :: Justifiable Homicide
  • < $200 :: "Your mother is a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberrys"
  • < $500 :: Go to Hell
  • < $1000 :: Bite Me
  • < $2000 :: [rude]No thanks[/rude]
  • < $5000 :: [polite]No thanks[/polite]
  • < $10000 :: I'm sorry, really. But no. I'm sure you'll find a lesser fan to sell you their ticket.
  • > $10000 :: Why don't you donate that money to the school and get season tickets you fair-weather bandwagon jumper?

8 Game(s) of the (20th) Century

Game of the Century

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The phrase "Game of the Century" refers to several contests in the history of college football in the United States. In each listing, the visiting team is listed first unless the game was played at a neutral site, in which case the teams are listed in alphabetical order.

Soon to be...
8 2006 Ohio State vs Tsun

I find it funny that there were EIGHT games of the century in 77 years. I guess tOSU vs tsun is the first of the next group!

I was thinking a little about this game today and it is a little funny how things are...

In this game, we have 1 team with a good but young Defense and a high powered Offense... another with a solid balanced Offense but a standout Defense.

Previously, I always used to say that the 2nd team here would win, and that is what Ohio State typically would have in the past 5 or so years. This year, we are the other side of this, and Michigan is the team with the solid D.

Thinking through this, I would think that I would feel less confident in our chances given the lessons I have learned over the years watching a dominating D beat out over High Power O's...

But in the end, I still think we win this by a fairly significant (10-14) margin.

Just figured I'd share...

When the standout offense sports the defense leading the country in points allowed; go with the "O".

Our defense was "good" at the begining of the year...they aren't good anymore. They are great...borderline amazing. It isn't like Michigan's defense is so much better than the Buckeyes. They are two great defenses...Michigan might get the edge, but not by a lot. It's not a fluke that the Bucks are #1 in scoring defense. They get pressure rushing 3 or 4. Michigan blitzes a lot more...takes more chances. Their stats show up in sacks, and each sack causes negative rushing yards, so it helps rushing defense too. Our stats show up in interceptions and pass defense, because our front 4 free up the rest of our defense. Let's see how Michigan's defense handles a guy with awareness and feet like Troy Smith? He will neutralize their strength. That's the difference in this game. QB play.

...historicaly, OSU has a lot of near misses (one game away from NC)
1961: Stupid faculty club... assholes
1969: Greatest upset of all time *cringes*
1970: Stanford
1973: scUM tie
1975: UCLA (hate rematches)
1979: USC
1996: scUM (again)
1998: scUM little (I hate them more)

Not to mention
1993: (scUM loss and Wisky tie)
1995: (scUM an UT losses)

Does any other team have so many near misses? I am sure all teams have near misses, but does anyone have so many since 1950?

I'd add 1974 to that list. If 1-loss tOSU had defeated 1-loss, 1-tie USC in that game, tOSU would have been #1 in the final Coaches Poll, since Oklahoma was on probation that year. USC was voted #1 in the Coaches Poll after winning that game on a late TD and a 2-point conversion (which I unfortunately witnessed from the corner of that end zone).

absolutely. they do because they can get away with it, playing teams with inadequate protection. ohio state's offensive line will be the best one they've faced. moreover, scum's blitzes may be left ineffective by using slants and underneath passes. i bet that -- though i have done the research -- last year's biggest offensive plays happened during, if not mostly because of, blitzes. i welcome michigan to blitz as much as possible. it takes only a couple big plays to determine a game.

The question is will Michigan try to continue bringing the heat, knowing full well that flushing Smith out of the pocket makes him doubly dangerous, or will they contain, focusing on stopping the run? What can a defense honestly do? If they blitz or spy on Smith, that's one receiver that is at the most single covered. Factor in a 4 or 5 WR set and their backfield is spread out pretty thin.

scUM's defense is starting to sound a lot like the Longhorn's sans Tarrell Brown - talented line, but the backfield is shaky. We certainly didn't out-rush them for a win. Will that same philosophy work, even though it goes against all conventional wisdom, in The Game?

Very true, very true...

Do you think that our D is honestly better than scUM's?

This is an arguable question. Another question is this: Is our D better than tsun's offense? I would have to say yes on that one. Our defense had it's struggles against the run early in the season, but having been making much more sure tackles since the first couple games. Tsun's Offense has not been consistent, and they have several guys that are questionable in health and legal status. They say that tsun is the second best team in the country, and that's fine, but we're no.1 for a good reason. They're not going to be able to score readily against us, which leaves their defense in the limelight trying to stuff a very consistent offense, easily the best they'll face this year.

It's my firm belief that we are going to outclass them on both sides of the ball.
