Troy Smith would not have changed the outcome of the 2005 game by playing more. He had plenty of chances to win it. You are forgetting that he allowed himself to be sacked for a safety to end any chance of winning.
How does that refute your own point that Texas was lucky Troy Smith wasn't ready on Sept 10?

Very funny. I never made that comment.
Considering I already quoted it in this thread, I'm not sure why you're denying it.

Respect from Horns Fans (tOSU tougher than USC?)

You guys were tougher than USC. Your defense was stouter. Your players are just as fast. We were just lucky that Troy Smith wasn't ready on SEPT 10. USC was a great, great offense, and nothing more. You would have KICKED THEIR ASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!

SEE YOU IN AUSTIN. WE HAD BETTER HAVE VINCE OR IT'S GONNA BE UGLY!!!!!!

Well, if high government officials can deny having made statements, so can this average citizen. Regardless, Texas was the best defense he faced, outside of Florida's. Your team was able to drive, mostly on the ground, but was, for the most part, reduced to field goals.

Troy was mediocre in 3 of his first 4 games, including mighty SDSU. (Iowa was a far simpler defense for Troy & his WRs to beat, given their man coverage). Troy's progression as the season continued was apparent to most, including yourself.

Texas faced a defensive force (struggling offense) in 05 and narrowly won. Texas faced an offensive force (struggling run defense) in 06 and lost big.

What happened afterwards doesn't change what happened in the series.

Did PSU win our 2-game series from 05-06?
05 - 7 pt PSU win, went on to win BCS bowl.
06 - 22 pt OSU win, went on to lose BCS title game.

IMO I think Texas had the best victory out of the series, but I think tosu definatly performed better over all over the two game series. I still hate that you beat us in Columbus that night! I was there at that game and the crowd was insane that night! What I look at is we could've and maybe even should've won the first game too. A missed catch by hamby, a missed saftey, a missed field goal, stupid penalties to put you guys in field position, and most of all not sticking the ball in the endzone when you guys made errors. What won you that game was the leadership of Vince Young and our lack there of at QB at that time.

However when you go to the second game it's not so iffy. Sure maybe if pittman doesn't fumble for you guys you might've had the momentum, but tosu just was better and it was pretty clear.

I give Texas big props on beating us at our place but that game could've gone either way, and Texas was fortunate to get the bouces that night. The second game like I said was pretty one sided, and thats why I think OSU might've and probably played better football over all over the two game series.. just my thoughts!

On a personal side note, Texas is my second favorite team now. Whenever I have the chance to watch the horns' play (atleast when my bucks aren't playing) I definatly do. I gained so much respect for your program with how you guys came into our house and beat us because again that was suppose to be a for sure victory for us (at night, in the shoe).

This is a great post and I agree with the sentiment. Yes, you did have bad breaks in the first game, but hey, so did we. as you stated, ee had fumbles, and interceptions that gave you great field position, but our defense provided the margin. In the scond game, the Pittman fumble was huge, but it wasn't a difference-maker. You guys were better and wanted it more, case closed. I sure wish we could play again. If my claim that we "won" the series, 1-1is too strong, (I made the statement to provoke interest), I still contend that texas made more of our victory. Perhaps having to come back and win in the fourth quarter in '06 might have provided your team with the strength of character to absorb the emotional blows provided by Florida. No one can answer that point, for sure, but it is something to think about.
