The first game was MUCH closer than the second, and I firmly believe OSU was a better team that year (after Troy got the starting job). If they played with Troy as the full-starter, I think that OSU wins that game IMO.

The second game wasn't close. I don't see how you can say Texas "won" the series, because Ohio State showed up, for the most part, in both games.

I've been thinking about the games we had with you over the last two years.

I sure wish we could play again next year. The year-long build-up helped get me through the boring off-season.

I believe Texas "won" the series, even though the teams split the games.

Why?

Because ultimately, the Texas win was more meaningful. Texas went to Columbus and beat a much better team than OSU beat in Austin. Winning in Columbus at night against your powerful team prepared Texas for their final challenge against USC. I still contend that OSU was better than USC last year, and that the win was harder, since your defense was so stout.

Because you throttled a less-than-great team in Austin, it may have begun to create an air of complacency that finally caught up with you in Glendale. Quite simply, we sucked last year, and were highly overrated. You exposed a weak secondary. Hell, BAYLOR scored over 30 on us.

To sum up, Texas made more of their win, because the win was so hard. Ohio State handled a mediocre Texas team easily in the rematch, and the result was to create an air of overconfidence.

I sure wish we could play at least every other year.

Good luck in 07.

Your argument carries about as much clout as the Horns did without Vince Young this year..........:wink2:

I've never quite seen an argument shut down like that one...

I've read all the comments. I've thought about the different points, counterpoints.

My argument is sound and correct.

Everyone is wrongly comparing Texas '07 with Ohio State '07.

You need to compare Texas '06 with Ohio State '07. Each team had all the pieces in place. Each team had the staff, the players, the senior leadership, the media-approved challenging schedule, the star QB. One team answered the challenge and became a part of college football lore. The other team, for reasons unknown, (overconfidence?, layoff?, being overrated?) let the opportunity slip away. For this reason, the Texas victory will be remembered, while the OSU win will be forgotten.

You sound like Domer fans trying to justify why their 1995 beatdown of Three Heisman Powlus was not a big deal.
the senior leadership
Really? 4 of 5 in the secondary were first year starters. The LBs as well (Animal had a whopping 2 games the year before). The DL was the only veteran unit, and was the strength of the defense all year.

Why? Texas '06 didn't play Ohio State '07.

My favorite part of this whole thing is how you claim that Texas '06 was a better team than Ohio State '07, so Texas somehow "won" the series. Forgetting, of course, that Ohio State '06 was better than Texas '07, but somehow that doesn't factor into your calculations.

No they sucked this year, it doesn't count.

Here's a calculation: Texas '05 was better than Michigan '05.
