Troy Smith would not have changed the outcome of the 2005 game by playing more. He had plenty of chances to win it. You are forgetting that he allowed himself to be sacked for a safety to end any chance of winning.

Had he not been rusty due to inactivity because of his suspension, Texas would not have the 2006 national title trophy in its trophy case right now. And you are forgetting that Texas is a dropped TD pass from a loss in The Shoe.

Or a missed FG from going to OT.....

Can't really blame Huston for missing from 50 after he had already hit his first five...

True, but it further illustrates that the game wasn't exactly a blowout like the 2nd one is.

Not that you are having the problem with the distinction, but certain other members on BP are apparently....

I will say this Footballfanatic.. I think the 05' Texas team was better than our 06 team. That being said I think that the 05' OSU team was better than the 05' OSU team. I can see where you're going with the whole "we made more of our victory" statement and you're right. However thats kinda irrelevant to our two game series. I think OSU played better overall in the two games combined. Like I said though, your victory was the better victory but that game could've gone either way. Also I wish we could play a couple more times as well! It was a blast talking with the horn fans, for sure I am kinda glad we don't have to put up with that randy guy any more. That guy was a stats FREAK. Anyways good luck to you horns this year..

Perhaps I haven't expressed my views well enough. The series does have everything to do with what the teams did afterwards. The first Texas/OSU will be remembered as a classic, with the winner winning the NC. The second game will be remembered for what it was. A one-sided win between two teams that went on to have mediocre seasons.

By the way, at least you had Troy Smith for half the game. We had a freshman QB in his second start for the entire game.
They dont like logic here. Trust me I have tried. If it isnt bowing down to tosu you will be hammered. The fact of the matter is we beat them while they were up and they beat us while we were down. By the way tosu congradulations on your double digit ranked recruiting class. Number 5 rivals number 3 scout biaaatches!!! Now go out and burn cars!!!

Logically, when a team splits a two-game series, they didn't "win" it, especially when they scored less points in the series.

Your team was hardly "down" this season. The only game you lost without McCoy at QB was against us. You had several All Americans including the Jim Thorpe winner.

Finally, as for our double-digit recruiting class, we had only 15 ships available whilst Texas signed 24. The quality of our recruits equals yours...in fact, our average star rating per recruit is 3.80 and yours is 3.79 on Rivals (Scout has your star rating per recruit a tenth-of-a-star better).

Enjoy your month vacation...beyatch.

Nothing could be further from the truth.
Let's apply a little logic.

It is not logical to call a record of 12-1 and #2 finish in the polls, plus having a Heisman winner a mediocre season.

Count up those stars in your eyes versus the number of incoming players.
You will see a very different ranking order. Scout, Ours #6, yours #4 - neither too shabby. Rivals, ranked by avg stars Texas #5 class, Buckeyes #4 - ranked by average points per recruit, Texas #4, Ohio State #5.
Is that sufficiently logical for you?

Some revisionist history, perhaps?

news flash notre dame was slow and overated because they are media darlings!!!!!! if you really think we are the same as notre dame then God have mercy on your soul

good point with our speed the longer plays take to develop more advantage texas. if i was tosu i would try to see if wells can power like lendale white because i garuntee you tosu's offense wont out quick our defense. now as far as the texas offense vs the tosu defense i want our qb to play the game exactly the way matt mauck played in the 2003 sugar bowl vs ou i want them to be a game manager and let the talent and speed around them win the game for them. heres my deal if our offense dosnt turn over we win by about 17

Longhorn fever;543034; said:
if you think nd has a better running game than us by all means continue to think that. oh year you know texas will have the best o line in the country this year according to most annuals we lost two players from last years line but are replacing them with a 5 star recruit(from 03 i think) tony hills and derrick dockery the brother of the former all american longhorn. so dont worry there will be plenty of blocking

Longhorn fever;545838; said:
it sounds like tosu is hanging their hat on the fact our young qbs will make mistakes funny but tosu's plans against us involve HOPE last year it was force vince to throw and hope he cant this year it's HOPE the freshman qb's make alot of mistakes. and i must say if you dont think we get 20 you are arrogant

Longhorn fever;583153; said:
Im tired of this no matter what i say nothing will convince you otherwise that ginn and smith arent gonna run wild on us for 615 or whatever it is yall had against notre dame so ill sww you later
I guess that you didn't see that "down" season coming last August....

Great post. I think you have answered the question. We really do have to divide the points into two arguments. One is that OSU played better over two games. The second being that the Texas win was ultimately more important, being that it had title victory implications. You played so much better in the second game, but the OSU win meant less, as you got thoroughly smoked in on the MNC.

On an unrelated but related note, I am so tired of the "if only x had happened, we would have won." Those arguments are completely bogus. x didn't happen, nor did a limitless number of other possibilites. "VY didn't break away for six 4th-quarter touchdowns, or we would have really won big, etc." It it pointless to fret about what didn't occur, so let's stop dwelling on these things, pulesze.
