Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

The need to get by at least Baylor or TCU is skrong. Those are teams that won the old SWC once every other decade. I can't imagine the Austin booster association accepting another year of fourth place in the All-Texas Trophy chase- funny, no one seems to think that Locksley may be looking at the aftermath of Jameis and the Tight Ship and making like a smart rat.

In a non-football vein, the [Mark May] is hitting the fan in Austin over backdoor admissions for grossly unqualified applicants with connections to state legislators.
Dont worry... if the leg has their way ... everyone on campus will have open carry... its slowly turning back in to the wild wild west down here.

Heard this morning Drake is one of the finalist to replace Powers as UT prez.... others include the current Provost & another dude who was Provost at Yale..

Current regents (AKA perry's boys) want someone other than the current Provost who is Power's pick....

fun fun fun... I cheered when they said Drake was a finalist

Drake isn't a candidate. The provost is though.

I don't know how to feel about Drake. There were some less than squeaky clean items in his California resume and I wasn't enamored with the way he handled the firing of Jon Waters. But to have your president of one year walk from the job to take the post in Austin would not have been a good sign in academic circles.

I love the fact that Texas wasn't going after our President but after our #2, and he prefers to be the #2 at Ohio State to being the President at Texas. My oh my, I wonder how the vaunted Longhorn ego will attempt to spin and process that.

not sure dont know many Academic types down here that went to UT... but man the morning talk show when they talk about Steve Patterson the AD.... its hysterical... the most profitable AD in the country asking coaches to cut down on travel, schedule away games closer, raising ticket prices, selling beer at events... all to save/make money. I think once Powers is gone.. the AD and boosters might take this place over... its really fascinating from an outsiders perspective

I have no real love for UT - unless they're playing ND - but it is sad to see what is happening on the academic side at UT and aTm.

I don't feel sorry for aggy at all because most of their alumni--being the blind followers that they are--are 100% backing their great alumnus Gov in whatever he wants to do to aggy. Hell, most of them think the changes will undo a lot of the things they don't like about the last 15 or so years and get back to good ol' "red ass" and "old army" (yes, those are things). Whoop!
