Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

not sure dont know many Academic types down here that went to UT... but man the morning talk show when they talk about Steve Patterson the AD.... its hysterical... the most profitable AD in the country asking coaches to cut down on travel, schedule away games closer, raising ticket prices, selling beer at events... all to save/make money. I think once Powers is gone.. the AD and boosters might take this place over... its really fascinating from an outsiders perspective

That is the real danger of UT that none of the holier-than-thou idiots on the Shag recognize. At UT, the most powerful donors and trustees are also huge foosball obsessed boosters. It has the makings for an ugly scandal, and I'm just wishing it would fucking happen already.

It takes decades of work and funding to attract the level of faculty and researchers, not to mention the facilities, that make a school such as Texas a top-tier academic institution. But a group of Neanderthals seem bent on reducing the place to a University of Phoenix.

I agree but there are actually some guys in the Leg that care about the academic reputation of their alma mater ... so it could get very interesting... needless to say I'll just sit back and watch

Never watched the Longhorn network. Do they have commercials? If so, why did that article ignore them? Without factoring in ad and product placement revenue, how can anyone claim E$PiN is losing money?

Probably because the most compelling programming worth anything is only on 3, maybe 4 times in the entire calendar year. They do carry some basketball games, but Texas hasn't been setting the world on fire in basketball lately either, so probably nowhere as expensive for an ad on LHN versus a game on ESPN2 or even ESPN U, News, or Classic when they have enough games to fill the channels. Considering all of the startup costs and ongoing expenses, they're probably barely breaking even or collecting a tiny (and tiny in this case meaning no more than a few million) profit. From most reports it sounds like they're closer to barely breaking even on the network.

Ad revenue is a small part of the overall revenue generated by these college networks. They make most of he money from carriage fees. I can't find exact numbers but in an article in the Chicago Tribune from 2013, the BTN was projecting $270 million in total revenue. Of that $234 million was projected to be from carriage fees. The article also said that 60% of the ad revenue would come on 14 football Saturdays.

Since the LHN only has a couple of Tejas games each year, I can't imagine that they're bringing in a lot of advertising $.

Does the LHN show the 2014 Texas Bowl? Texas vs Arkansas

The Longhorns had 43 plays for 59 yards. Let me repeat that, 43 plays for 59 yards.

I'd pay a couple bucks to watch that game again. LOL

This shit still boggles my mind. This is Div. 1 (LHN) athletics.

I watched every snap of this game. Texas got 30 some yards of that final total on the last drive. It was like watching a train wreck into another train wreck. LOL.
