Teams Ohio State Needs to Lose

Ohio State has already failed to take care of its own business, so it wouldn't prove anything. That' said, I'd prefer that the conference not suck because experience playing good opponents prepares a team to beat other good opponents.

See above. We've done everything every other 1-loss team has done including the two (or more) who get in. We'll have just done it in a shitty conference.

It used to be that if you lost early, you would be in the front of the line for the one loss teams.
The difference now is the ESPiN propaganda machine is much more powerful and focused (SEC on ESPN) than it was then. I used to pay a lot of attention to the various scenarios which would allow tOSU to move up in the rankings. Now I just try to enjoy their games, although there is still a little looking ahead to see what would help them.

I'm at the point that I'm hoping for a [Mark May]showclusterhoke. FSU and 3 SEC teams, including a 2-loss team from the West. Let it hit the fan. Let everywhere outside of the South boycott it. Let's see if Delaney's testicles can descend or if it's still all about protecting the Rose Bowl above all else. Plus, it'll prove me right to all the "Screw rooting for the Big Ten because all Ohio State has to do is take care of their own business and they're in" crowd.

This. That's why I said in the 'polls' thread that I would like nothing more than to see this 'committee' paint itself into a corner and have to have all four slots filled in by the SEC. Buckeyes beat Sparty in a close, ugly win, maybe even helped with a bad call by the reffs. FSU drops a turd against its late season patsies or the ACCCG and Nike gets dumped one more time. Based on the idiotic initial poll, if these losses happen and the right combination happens in the SEC, they (the committee) might be forced in to some end of season poll gymnastics or we get to 'enjoy' an 'all sec, all the time' post season.

Sun belt classic indeed.

Well, everybody knows that you are crazy. But I think you're having a lucid moment here. Ohio State is probably going to lose against Michigan State. However, I think it will be a close game that Ohio State could win. There is no "orders of magnitude" difference between the two teams. The "talent" edge goes to Ohio State. The "experience" edge goes to Michigan State. The "coaching" is pretty much even. Michigan State has the home field advantage. Vegas has Ohio State as a slight dog (1.5 to 2 points on the early lines), which sounds about right to me.

Not to insert myself into this "debate"... and being somewhat nitpicky...

Coaching is actually where I suspect MSU's biggest advantage is. Thus far Herman has been out-done by Narduzzi and Foster. No shame in that, those are 2 of the best in the business and I'm shocked neither of them is a HC right now.
But as of right now .... Herman is definitely the underdog with something to prove against Narduzzi. I hope we get to see him take the step from an excellent OC to one of the elites.

And then we are treated to 3-0 and 7-3 games in the semis and a 6-3 game in the final.

That was like 3 years ago when SEC schools actually played Defense.
It's all Offense these days. Their offenses are so good, so lightning fast, so amazing... like 42-35 whoever-has-it-last shootouts because their defenders are glorified traffic cones. But they're such fast traffic cones!

Even if chaos does occur, I don't think Ohio State will get in. Other teams are getting a pass for losses against clearly inferior opponents, but no one is giving Ohio State said pass for having a freshman starting his 2nd game ever. Just the way it is.

I'll probably watch whatever glorified exhibition Ohio State lands in during bowl season, but I can't say I'll watch any of the other bowl games. No real interest anymore.

I dont' think it needs to be all that chaotic. Going into last weekend, Ohio State needed 14 teams to pick up their second loss. Ohio State can do two themselves, leaving 12. An even third of them did pick up that second loss, leaving 8 to go. There's three weeks in the regular season plus championship games, so that's only two/week. Throw in the fact that there are 6 (not counting our games w sparty and corn) matchups between various 1-loss teams. That automatically eliminates three of the 8. Leaving 5 having to suffer upsets over a 3-4 game stretch.

We haven't been the underdog in years. Always the favorite in every game with nothing to gain and everything to lose. I am really excited. Less pressure. Expected to lose. I can just have a few beers and enjoy myself.

Teams OSU needs to lose: MSU saturday. unless that happens the rest doesn't matter. I'll start looking at the rankings/other 1 loss teams when we get past sparty.

True that. BUT...if we do win, it will be a different discussion. MSU has received plenty of credit from pollsters and would be the only quality win we've had so far...I don't think anyone can honestly argue that any team we've beaten is a top 25 team. Conversely, I think MSU is a legitimate top 10 team, perhaps top 5. We've been on the outside looking in for good reason...I think there are some on the committee that think we can be in the discussion but they are waiting to see what we do this week, which I think is fair enough.

I hope so. I don't care who gets in anymore now that it's very clear Ohio State won't be in unless 13 other teams have plane crashes or something equally tragic. Now I want the games to suck and people to bitch about how stupid the system is and to see E$$$ECPN's investment in buying the game broadcast rights and the process of choosing whoever gets into the games blow up in their faces.
